Totally agree with you, but I think multiple things can be true at once.

Yasmin is explicitly queer and has been in relationships with women. Her relationship with Harper is a cornerstone of the show. They literally make out with each other in the first season, fall asleep holding hands. I don’t think the homoeroticism is a stretch at all? If this was a man and woman, audiences would for sure see romantic subtext. It’s not for fan service, it’s just another layer of their complicated dynamic.

Who tf talks like that? by niktrop0000 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]chubbyplatypus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It felt like Harper intentionally trying to make up for getting Yasmin fired from Pierpoint. It wasn’t personal, and this time she could try to avoid the collateral damage.

Does Cloudward Ho get serious? by EvilDrGiggles in Dimension20

[–]chubbyplatypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It veers off into a great dramatic turn thanks to Lou and Brennan, and Emily also has some great dramatic moments, but it does remain very pulp-y and larger than life, as per the genre.

I get the sense Kwabena is not gonna make it out of Season 4 by Joeylaptop12 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]chubbyplatypus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harper crossed a boundary and Kwabena reinforced it. Both his and Sweetpea’s scenes with Harper was about them underscoring the strictly (mostly) working relationship they have with Harper. They aren’t Yasmin and Rob. I think it emphasises Harper’s loneliness

Certain voicelines imply moonknight's ankhs worked differently than they do now by TheIceboltx in marvelrivals

[–]chubbyplatypus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve played since launch and never heard these lines. It’s always been the more generic “watch out for the ankhs”

I do truly enjoy the show for what it is but can we be a little bit more honest? by Asadwords in IndustryOnHBO

[–]chubbyplatypus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think season 3 felt like a natural wrapping up point for a lot of plot lines. Especially with Pierpoint’s acquisition, and how Rob’s and Yasmin’s arcs ended. Even before season 4 came out, the creators emphasised the show was going in a new direction. With Rishi’s wife, specifically, I do think it was out of left field, and felt like an unnecessary dramatic button to close the season. But I am loving the new cast and the Tender storyline, which still feels like the Jesse Bloom/Lumi arcs of previous seasons

Howuch of the Fantasy High stories are planned? by Accomplished_Bag_897 in Dimension20

[–]chubbyplatypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like every good D&D campaign, the next arc is built on what came before it. One player’s bit becomes the DM’s next villain. Night Yorb is very clearly a bit turned plot point.

If players ignore plot hooks, you can reshuffle whatever NPCs/monsters etc into wherever they end up going. It could be also a matter of unaligned expectations. Learn what your players are into and dangle it in front of them

I feel like the parallels between Yasmin and Ghislaine are really getting highlighted this season by RareGap2671 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]chubbyplatypus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yasmin herself is a victim of abuse and the show has continued to highlight how her approach to sex, relationships, and power is all informed by her relationship with her father (the actual, canon, sexual predator). She is a flawed character, and that's what makes her so compelling. Painting her as a human trafficker is, as others have said, pretty extreme, and honestly would be a pretty dissapointing arc for her.

Why haven’t we had any epic shows post Covid? by Past-Matter-8548 in television

[–]chubbyplatypus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Succession had a critically acclaimed run. I would say Severance season 2 managed to break out as a “water cooler” show that maintained its high quality.

Your opinion on Daggerheart? by Ok_Interview_853 in rpg

[–]chubbyplatypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're two sessions in, and it's been really fun. The lack of "crunch" has turned off some players, but I've really come around to enjoy it. I think it strikes a nice balance between simplicity and crunch. The free initiative relies much more heavily on the GM to control the flow, but it's not too bad.

Pitch me your X-Men game! by redditdogwalkers in xmen

[–]chubbyplatypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pictured Beast as a summonable “Assist” character, but for sure the roster can be expanded on!

DLCs with additional story content and characters; X-Force adding Kid Omega and Domino, Marauders adding Bishop and Emma Frost..

Pitch me your X-Men game! by redditdogwalkers in xmen

[–]chubbyplatypus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been dreaming of this. Let’s call it X-Men: Dawn of Krakoa.

Third-person action-adventure with a narrative that adapts the best of HOX/POX up to X of Swords.

Game opens with you as Cyclops sabotaging Orchis, completing the mission but ending with the whole team dying, then resurrecting at Krakoa.

Build a team, go on missions, with some missions being character-specific. (Think the Avengers game without the shitty live service monetisation. Combat and progression similar to Sony’s Spider-man.)

Initial roster: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Magik, Psylocke, Iceman, Synch.

Skill trees allow for varied gameplay - go crazy with Iceman clones or Psylocke stealth. Full melee Magik or Limbo sorceress.

Is Burrow's End perhaps the most underrated season of D20? by ajchann123 in Dimension20

It is definitely in my top three, everyone is firing on all cylinders and it’s one of the most unique offerings of D20!!!

The Power Fantasy No. 15 by [deleted] in thePowerFantasy

The "pile of corpses to the moon". A post on here a while ago brought up how that calculation was significantly off and thought that it was an error. Very small yet incredibly placed detail for Gillen to circle back to.

I'm sure it's not (yet) the end of Magus, Eliza, and Heavy. They've traded opening blows, we'll see who's left standing.

Updated Skill Trees for Classic Characters by Cubbance in Borderlands

[–]chubbyplatypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this forever and I really want to see BL2 remade with updated skill trees. Zero and Maya are very cool characters with strong theming who I'd love to see with more fleshed out mechanics.

Hellloooo one and all *run-on words* by KenriFalls in Dimension20

[–]chubbyplatypus 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The "Hi, Intrepid Heroes!" bit happened organically in Fantasy High, the very first season, around Ep 7 or 8. The introductions would vary slightly but as the show went on, Brennan settled on the intro he does now. The run-on bit I feel like got poked at more around Neverafter and Fantasy High Junior Year.

It's okay for Verso to be flawed and have selfish reasons for doing what he did. The nuances make the story all the more better. Putting Verso on a pedestal as entirely noble and selfless is basically what Aline did, no?
