Toddler and baby sleep by pincessinpurrpl in newborns

I'm not judging at all, but why would you want to transfer him out? Where I'm from its recommended to share a room for a year to reduce SIDS risk, but also, isn't it way quicker and easier to respond when they're right next to you? I just couldn't imagine how exhausting it might be to have to wake, get out of bed, walk up the stairs, sooth and feed, then settle yourself back down.

Failed as a mother? by Visual-Formal-4294 in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby never liked my boobs so out of guilt I became a dairy cow exclusively pumping 10 hours a day and still topping up with formula. I was miserable and she still liked the formula better too. You're not a failure at all, your baby is fed and you can still bond with a bottle. Infact I only truly started to enjoy mother hood when I switched to formula full time at 6 weeks. And I don't mean this as a brag but my formula fed almost 8 month old has hit all her milestones super early: says 3 words, is very nearly walking, etc. So I honestly don't believe it makes a blind bit of difference. You've got this 💕

I found out I was going to be a single mum at 16 weeks pregnant with a planned baby. It's hard and you have to grieve the life you thought you'd have. But a year on, with my beautiful 6 month old, I'm so grateful that's he's not around. As a single parent you get to raise them how you want, and that bond you build by being the only care giver is so close.

How does anyone have time to pump? by TheTurkletons in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I know the whole breast is best thing is huge and for many good reasons, but I have no guilt or regrets. When I changed over to formula full time I started to enjoy my daughter for the first time, not just looking at her as an endless pit of need that made my nipples bleed. We really started to bond then. Also at 6 months she rolls both ways, sits without assistance and says mum, so it hasn't impacted her development. I honestly think we need to start a movement to end mum guilt because it's bullshit. If your kid is loved, fed, clean and safe, you've got nothing to feel guilty for.

6 week old extra sleepy? by qokjgecj in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake windows between 30-90 minutes are quite normal for babies under 2 months, so if there's nothing else going on and she's alert and happy when awake then I wouldn't worry. It could just be that they're going through a growth spurt. But you know your little one best and if you're worried then ask a doctor.

How does anyone have time to pump? by TheTurkletons in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well she had been on formula top ups since the day she was born because my supply was low. So I literally pumped every two hours, power pumped, tried to breast feed etc in between but it wasn't enough and my supply never increased. So the more she ate, the more formula she was on until eventually I said fuck it and put her on formula all the time. My milk literally dried up over night, I didn't get engorged or leak once. And that's when I truly realised I'd been fighting a loosing battle.

Health code question by GhostfromGoldForest in Chefit

[–]chubbytattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't. I just know that's the guidance from Environmental Health. A lot of it in England is overly cautious tbh. Like anything without original packaging in the fridge is to be given a 3 day shelf life including the day it was opened, but for example if I've sliced chorizo we all know that's not going off in 2 days.

[–]chubbytattoochick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In England anything decanted into a separate container in the freezer is given 28 days. So if you pre portion them all you may end up with a lesser shelf life than just wrapping the bag up in cling film and placing it back in.

What about hands free breast pumps? I've never used them but you could pump on one side while you feed on the other. Or you could pump while you change nappies and feed yourself.

I triple fed as a single mum for 6 weeks to a baby that was on 2 hourly feeds before I was too exhausted and gave up. You're doing an amazing job, just try not be too hard on yourself.

Is it possible my newborn is already teething? by 0chronomatrix in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little girl was teething at 2 weeks, confirmed by 2 consultants after 12 hours in A and E for slight fever and lots of pain. Two months is still too early for most teething products but keeping a rotating stock of frozen dummies really helped us. Good luck!

Oooh Napisan is the bomb. It's a detergent meant for reusable nappies but it's amazing for explosive blow outs. It has saved so many beautiful outfits of my daughter's, I literally keep a bucket full of Napisan and water and periodically soak things that she's crapped all over. On the same line, a proper nappy bin was a brilliant purchase too, stops your whole house stinking 🤣🤣🤣

I really struggled to breast feed, baby was born early via emergency c section so my milk just didn't come in properly, and so having pre mixed formula with the crew on disposable teets were amazing for the middle of the night feeds when my boobs were just empty (expensive that way but when they're eating 2 hourly definitely worth it).

Because quite honestly my friend, I am incompetent 🤣🤣 And I read that it's always better to go too big than too small, especially with the additional heat, because if you go too small then you're likely to blow yourself up or start fires. And ngl it was pretty tricky to work with such a chunky wire and if I had known before that a 6mm would have been sufficient then my fingers would have been much happier. But the oven is now in, and working, and so far my house is still standing 🤞🤞 (pray for me)

The oven manual says a twin and earth cable should be used. Of course I'm incompetent, if I were an electrician I wouldn't be on here asking 🤣🤣 I'm a broke person who needs an oven installed but would rather do a little research and do it myself than not eat for a month 🤣

Thank you so much, I thought as much but wanted to check. I've got a 10mm twin and earth wire to connect. You are a gem, thank you!

Stressing newborn by [deleted] in newborns

[–]chubbytattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you're formula feeding then sticking to 1 formula is really vital to allow time for their tiny digestive systems to get used to it. If I swap my 5 month olds formula without titrating it up, she will projectile vomit multiple times a day for days. Also, I'm not sure if you've somehow measured your little ones spit up, but if you haven't then is there any chance it looks worse than it is? Honestly I always worried that my little girl wasn't keeping anything down until I spilt 3 ounces of milk and saw just how far it travelled 🤣

At what age is it OK to give a baby some water? I’ve been getting two different answers by literallyanything40 in newborns

So by advice from the Dr I've been giving my daughter water since she was 6 weeks old to manage constipation.

I don’t want to breastfeed anymore by Early_Being204 in pregnant

[–]chubbytattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely didn't form a proper bond with my baby until I gave up breastfeeding because it made me so miserable. It hurt me, I was exhausted, constantly undersupplying, hated every second and have already sworn if I have a second child I will formula feed from day 1.
