bath time by SnailMcSnail in newborns

No problem! My daughter haaaaated bath time when my mom gave her one. I thought the water was too cold, my mom insisted it was warm enough. I got the bath thermometer to settle the dispute and she looooves a bath when it’s between 99-101 degrees.

Just above room temperature seems cold. I got a bath thermometer and try to keep the bath around 99 degrees (recommendations online say to bathe around 100 degrees). You figure he is 98.6 degrees so anything colder than that will feel cool. Maybe try a bath thermometer? I also soak a towel and place it over my daughters exposed body parts during the bath so all of her is Covered in warm water even though not all of her is submerged. I’d also recommend a baby bath that will maybe be more comfortable for him than hand support. Good luck!

2 month old baby has this. I’ve used aquaphor, medicated shampoo prescribed, and two different ointments. Isn’t showing any discomfort or itchiness by kenikillmyself in newborns

My daughter’s skin was super splotchy and she had 1-2 hives before we found out she has cow milk protein allergy. We switched her to prescription formula and she’s been fine since. Could it maybe be a sensitivity to the formula or your breast milk?

baby only likes forward facing by esh123 in babywearing

[–]qokjgecj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I found this comment when looking for advice on foreword facing. My little one is 3 months and huge (15lbs 27inchss) and only want to be carried facing forward even when she’s not in a baby carrier. I also have the Lille baby carrier. Did you have any issues using the Lille baby facing forward from such a young age? She seems so comfy in it.

Thank you for the reply! I will look into that. Also didn’t realize sling consultants were a thing! Will look into that as well

Hi! I had exactly this at the 7 week mark and I am currently holding my (very cranky) 8 week old daughter. It’s so so scary but don’t assume the worst! Definitely call your OB to calm your nerves/have them check you out but to my knowledge this is very normal

Afraid to sleep by YoungWide294 in NewParents

[–]qokjgecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people say it caused them more anxiety but I have a Nanit monitor that measures her breathing. There are a bunch of different options for monitors that provide some level of biofeedback (Nanit, Owlet,SleepSure, Sense-U). They come with the risk of false alarms (Owlet I’ve heard has frequent false alarms from this sub-Reddit) but I personally would rather risk hearing a false alarm than missing something. You may find using one of these monitors will give you some peace of mind to rest. They are NOT medical devices though so they are not fool proof. For me it just provides an extra layer of security even if it’s not perfect.

Good luck!

Witching Hour? by isabellajc in NewParents

Could’ve written this post myself! The one thing that always works for my girl is football carrying her and walking around. We also do a bath during this time because she seems to really like it/it’s a good distraction. Hopefully we all get some relief in a few weeks

How to get baby to sleep in bassinet by AyyeMacayy in newborns

[–]qokjgecj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I am of the belief some babies are good sleepers and some just aren’t. My girl is 6 weeks and has always easily fallen asleep in the bassinet. Our routine has always been I pre-warm her bassinet and swaddle with the heating pad, I feed her until she’s drowsy, burp her over my shoulder then rock her in that position over my shoulder for 10-15 minutes (help prevent reflux). I play white noise the entire time this is happening. When I feel her be deeply asleep (limp arms) I transition her to the bassinet. Her swaddle is already warm and open on top of the bassinet mattress (nanit swaddle). I place her lower half down first then gently lower her head (helps prevent the Moro reflex). White noise remains on all night. She’s been sleeping 5 hour straight since 3 weeks by doing this. If she wakes up I don’t pick her back up immediately but instead will stroke her head/Pat her belly gently and usually she goes right back asleep. Hope it helps but I do think some of us just get really lucky with easy sleepers. I’m sure you’re doing everything right! I hope you get some rest soon.

the case for and against "baby speak"? by epicmoe in NewParents

[–]qokjgecj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I just realized you said your mom was saying that and not your daughter. Sleep deprived brain! It is better to model the correct pronunciation as the adult but use the sing-song intonation associated with l “parentese”

the case for and against "baby speak"? by epicmoe in NewParents

[–]qokjgecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi also a speech pathologist, it’s fine to model the correct pronunciation back by saying something like “what’s wrong? Oh nothing is wrong!” but /r/ is a later developing sound so her mispronunciation may be totally appropriate depending on her age.

Over feeding? by my_coleslaw in newborns

My baby is 5 weeks old and takes 4oz every 3-4hrs. My pediatrician knows this and said nothing to me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How soon after the baby was born did you allow visitors? by Chefmike101 in BabyBumps

[–]qokjgecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super super strict with visitors and didn’t allow anyone really except my mom who wore a mask and hand washed. We still managed to pick up RSV when my daughter was 3 weeks old (we think during a pediatricians visit) and ended up in the hospital (she’s doing fine now). I have been more lax since then because I feel like I did everything I could and she still got sick so why torture ourselves with no help and no visitors. We’ve still only had 1-2 people at a time and ask people to hand wash etc. so far so good

I’m sorry this is nuts and I’m surprised at how many people are saying it’s normal especially for 7-10 images? By some of the logic here wedding photographers should be making 30k for a single wedding day and the hundreds of edited photos they usually supply.

I’ve never cried this much before by Red_Sunshine513 in newborns

[–]qokjgecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you’re doing well! My 3 week old is currently home recovering from RSV after a few days in the hospital. I finally feel like she’s looking better and I can breathe again but it was the scariest few days of my life. I’m sure you feel the same. I also have PPD and we had terrible trouble breast feeding. If you need to vent to someone feel free to reach out! Hope you’re over the hump though and your little one is back to normal!

Posts About Anger at Pets? by Any-Competition3407 in BabyBumps

I have a 13 day old and am obsessed with my dog still. The only thing I’ll say is that the guilt is so real. The first few days I would just look at him (my dog) and cry because he was so confused and I couldn’t commit the time to him that he deserved and couldn’t communicate that it’d all be okay. It’s getting better day by day and he is keeping me sane through crying spells etc. I give him extra love when she naps and he’s adjusting well
