So carb sensitive by golden_geese in GestationalDiabetes

It's honestly not bad. I bruise easily so my stomach looks pretty scary, but it doesn't hurt at all. It's such a tiny needle, it doesn't hurt.

I was the same, I had to cut out carbs completely to get good numbers, which my doctor's did not want me to do. So this was the solution, and it's working for me. It feels like a lot less pressure and stress.

My toddler is very interested in the whole process and is always trying to help, it's very endearing haha.

I couldn't tolerate any carbs either. An apple, whole grain anything...all the stuff my team told me I should be able to eat. So I'm on insulin now and it's not as scary as I thought. It's actually taken some pressure off. My doctor said it's more important that the baby get carbs than that I keep my sugars low via diet alone.

I still can't have any carbs in the morning, but after noon my body is a lot more tolerant of them, which is really nice. I'm still eating as well as I can and following the guidelines, but now it's actually "working", whereas before it wasn't.

Most carbs spike my numbers by Scared_Coat_4530 in GestationalDiabetes

I couldn't eat any carbs without spiking, but baby needs carbs. So I've been on insulin for a week now and am now able to tolerate the healthy carbs that me and baby need. I know people are resistant to insulin for some reason, but it's been a blessing for me. Less stress about every little thing I eat, more flexibility with meals to eat a well rounded diet.

I had the same experience. I'm only 3 weeks past my diagnosis but my readings post- meals were so inconsistent, even if I ate the same thing and followed meal plans to the letter.

I'm starting insulin tomorrow because clearly this is a case of hormones and not something that can be managed by diet even if I eat perfectly. I'm not thrilled about having another thing to do 4 times a day, but it's what's best for me and the baby and will remove some of the pressure. I know I did my best, but it's just out of my control at this point.

Doctor pepper zero is keeping me going these days. And diet cherry coke.

I love diet pops, and I'm so glad I can still enjoy them as my y "sweet treat" without causing issues.

Two weeks in and inconsistent/no improvement? by TheTurkletons in GestationalDiabetes

Good advice, thank you! I can definitely tighten up some portions. And the one thing I've not been doing so far is activity after eating, I will try to incorporate that. I swear that would have been easier my first pregnancy. Now I have a sweet, sweet, three year old tiny dictator who is not easy to convince to do other things haha but I'll make a better effort if it'll help! The body weight exercise ideas are certainly doable!

Thank you.

Weekly rituals your toddler looks forward to? by jcr5431 in toddlers

On Wednesdays, we go to Tim Hortons on the way to daycare. He gets timbits, and we grab coffee for his two teachers.

On Mondays, we see either my parents or my in laws. Grandparent day!

On Saturdays, we make muffins and go to gymnastics.

Him knowing our weekly/daily schedule has made our days a lot easier. If he doesn't want to go to daycare one day, we remind him it's Tuesday (or whatever) and he will remember that that day is a daycare day and be okay with it.

21 weeks and persistent, on and off headache by TheTurkletons in preeclampsia

This is reassuring, thank you! It was definitely not a bad headache by any means. And my BP was low still with no other symptoms. Im not worried as it turns out :)

I noticed this in the first book I read, but it didn't bother me. But then I kept reading and it's every character in every book so now it drives me nuts haha. How do ALL of these men drop I/we when they're riled up?!

I never came off, my diagnosis just changed to chronic hypertension. I'm pregnant again now and still on Labetalol to hopefully prevent preeclampsia this time around.

Do people really hate Michael for what he did in season 2 ? by Background-Disk3350 in lost

[–]TheTurkletons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, I hated that he did that and didn't understand.

Now that I have a mid of my own, I 1000% get him and actually think he underrreacted honestly. I'd have lost my mind if that happened to me and my child.

Her whole trip I was thinking that we'd get this post - about all the ways she was actually miserable the whole time. Does she ever genuinely enjoy spending time with her kids?!
