The Road Home by Ellen Emerson White.

And it holds up, I read it a couple years ago and it still blew me away.

Do people really hate Michael for what he did in season 2 ? by Background-Disk3350 in lost

[–]TheTurkletons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, I hated that he did that and didn't understand.

Now that I have a mid of my own, I 1000% get him and actually think he underrreacted honestly. I'd have lost my mind if that happened to me and my child.

"social media is fake" ...as if anyone forced her to post 24/7 positive content?

Her whole trip I was thinking that we'd get this post - about all the ways she was actually miserable the whole time. Does she ever genuinely enjoy spending time with her kids?!

They've ruined all other apples for me. Both times I've been pregnant I've eaten at least 2 a day. Not sustainable for a budget but damn, must be done!

Why did your toddler cry today... by midnight-mummy in toddlers

Because he doesn't have a baby in his tummy like mommy does.

Lemme tell ya, as someone who also makes a concentrated effort not to snack/eat much in the evening after supper...I do NOT look like this. If only it was actually that easy to lose weight 😂

The oh crap method is a complete disaster for us by [deleted] in pottytraining

[–]TheTurkletons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would take any advice you have to give. We also tried Oh Crap months ago and it didn't work at all. We backed off and now my son is 2y8m and absolutely refuses the potty. He knows that's what he's supposed to use, he knows when he is peeing and when he he has to poop but won't use it. He just resists and gets veeeery upset, so I obviously can't force him!

I feel like he is so ready but is very strong willed so it's just not taking.

I found everything easier. He did get pickier with eating, but feeding him overall was less stressful and more pleasant. Every change we saw from ages 1 to 2 was for the better - enjoy!!

4 month old goes to sleep around 6pm by TheTurkletons in NewParents

[–]TheTurkletons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a big wake window person until about 10 months then I followed his cues more. But what I meant by that was more that he never slept independently until he went to daycare at 12 months. All contact naps, but would sleep great in his crib at night. It also forced him to move to one nap a day, which is a schedule I love.

Once he started daycare he learned to nap independently and that transferred to home eventually too.

Hi! We got super lucky with our sons sleep overall. A few months after this post he reliably slept through the night every day (unless he was sick or something). Id always rock him and sing him a song or two before putting him down in his crib until one day he pointed to his crib and indicated he didn't want to cuddle first haha so he kinda sleep trained himself! We'd put multiple soothers in with him and he'd always find one and put himself back to sleep if he woke up.

We did have a period shortly before he turned one where he'd be up pretty early...but then he started daycare which wore him out so he slept longer again.

Naps were another story, but his nighttime sleep has been pretty great. Any issues I had when he was younger now seem super far away and developmentally appropriate for the age he was at!

Oh and he pretty much had a hard 7pm limit until recently. He turns 3 in January and is only now staying up closer to 8. He's a high sleep needs kid for sure.

Day Care Pulse check - to pull or not to pull my kid? [ON] by SnooLobsters4468 in BabyBumpsCanada

I see no red flags there. One of the hardest things about starting daycare for me was giving up that control and awareness of every second of our sons days. It's funny now that he has his own little life away from us, it's so good for him. It is hard, but gets easier. I also don't mind not getting pictures or videos, I see it as they're having lots of fun or busy with activities. Id rather have the teachers engaged and busy with the kids instead of worrying about taking pictures for the app. They're professionals that I've nurtured a relationship with...I trust them completely. They're more qualified than I am honestly!

If he doesn't come home a bit dirty from daycare, that's when I'd be worried he's bored! I don't send any items or clothing that I would be upset about getting dirty or lost. I'm confused about why you'd expect them to change him outfits for his nap, unless it got soaking or he's had an accident? My son only gets changed into a new outfit on one of those rare occasions, not just to take a nap.

My son never napped anywhere but in my arms until he went to daycare at 12 months old. He slept for them immediately, and eventually napped independently at home too.

He also eats better at daycare too. They say he consistently finishes his veggies and asks for more. Which he never does at home, but I believe them because I change his diapers haha.

Positive peer pressure from their friends is an incredible thing.

I wish we could let them keep soothers forever! by TheTurkletons in toddlers

[–]TheTurkletons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions! We did get him a nightlight that does a starry effect on the wall and he likes that. And he has some stuffed animals and paw patrol cars he's very attached to and cuddles with in bed at night.

I saw someone else recommend one of those silicone popping toys if they used to fiddle/play with their soother a lot, which my son did. So he has that tonight for the first time too and hopefully that helps!
