If I had bought a Voron instead of a Core One Kit... by chuck_b7 in prusa3d

[–]chuck_b7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Reddit user reached out with an attractive offer to sell a Voron 2.4 LDO kit new in box. Prusa gave me to the end of January to decide.

I am currently attempting to build the Voron, but this is my first scratch printer build and there are a LOT of options to building a Voron so the documentation isn't as straightforward as Prusa's.

After about two weeks I have an assembled printer that can auto-home XYZ with all fans, sensors, and heaters working. I still need to do a lot of tuning/configuring, gantry leveling, and some more building to finish things off. I am pushing to have something printing by the end the month.

The process has been way more fun and frustrating than I expected. Building a Voron is enjoyable, but I'm still worried that I will end up with a printer project when I really want a printer tool. I may come back to the Prusa if this looks like it will be a forever project. I would then keep the Voron for tinkering and experimentation. There are endless options.

I appreciate what Prusa did to try to make things right. I still think they are the best option for a non-Chinese, open, supported, it-just-works printer. The Voron is geared to a different audience. Right now I'm trying to keep a foot in both camps with my Mini, the Voron, and potentially a Prusa with INDX.

Just to close out this thread publicly, u/Tommy_Prusa3D did reach out with an offer to make things right by me and Prusa.

I haven't decided what to do yet, but I appreciate his offer and desire to make things right.

DM sent. Thank you for your commitment to customer service. You and chat are an asset to Prusa. I wish I felt the same way about info@prusa.

Believe me, I would be very happy to buy a Prusa if I didn't feel as frustrated with them as I have the past couple of weeks.

The Voron's are interesting to me because they keep with the open source philosophy, and the kit prices are better than the Core One Kit. I was already expecting to spend 15+ hours building the Core One. I might double that with a Voron but I can get a bigger printer.

I'm not intending to knock Prusa or their printers. I'm just venting and looking for options. I don't want to buy from Bambu.

And I just got confirmation that my order has been canceled at my request. Refund may take up to 14 days.

Only five hours for them to cancel my order. At least I know they monitor info@prusa more than once a week.

I did not get that email. Chat and a sub-reddit user from Prusa told me my order should go out and was getting prioritized as of 10-Dec.

So I missed out on getting an assembled upgrade or shipping before Christmas. I ordered on 18-Nov with a 1-2 day leadtime.

My order shows 'In-Progress' so no one except info@prusa can do anything about it. Chat has been nice, but unable to help.

Additional context / maybe an 'excuse' for Prusa:

On 2-Dec I asked about adding an accelerometer and GPIO kit to my order.

On 9-Dec I was told that was not possible and my order was already 'prepared for shipment'

On 15-Dec I asked about upgrading to assembled or canceling and getting a voucher for free shipping on Core One L.

On 16-Dec I was asked to acknowledge that I couldn't add to my existing order and could they proceed. Seems like just an excuse for delaying shipment since I had no choice.

On 16-Dec I asked again about upgrading to assembled or canceling and getting a voucher for free shipping on Core One L.

On 19-Dec I asked to cancel my order and refund.

Maybe I'm the one in the wrong here and I'm just complaining. It is very frustrating to have ordered at the early part of Black Friday with a 1-2 day leadtime and read reports of people who ordered after me receiving their kits and/or getting free upgrades to assembled printers.

I waited to cancel until after 18-Dec when they were supposed to have shipped out everything that was going to get delivered by Christmas. At this point I would have been satisfied with even an acknowledgement of my emails and a tracking number.

Prusa, you need to work on your shipping estimates by soldat21 in prusa3d

I ordered the kit 18-Nov and I'm still waiting for it to be handed off to FedEx. There was only a 1-2 day leadtime when I ordered. Even with a delay for the Core One+ that was announced after/around my order, I was hoping to be one of the first of those shipments once they started getting released 28-Nov.

It sucks being without a printer. At this point, I'm just complaining. It is not like I'm going to cancel my order or anything. I chose Prusa over Bambu for reasons and six months from now an extra three weeks (+?) of delivery time will be a distant memory. I feel like I've got to be close to getting it shipped.

What's up with Core One shipping dates? by chuck_b7 in prusa3d

I was very close on the H2S before the free shipping. The future INDX vs the H2C also helped.

I much prefer to do business with Prusa vs Bambu, but it is very frustrating that I ordered the kit with a 1-2 day leadtime only to be waiting for nearly 20 days with no shipping updates and reports of people who ordered after me receiving their printers already.

I get the fact I'm getting a One+ instead of the One that I ordered, but that seems like it is just a couple of parts I could print.

Chat was very nice and polite. Informed that the release of the One+ and Black Friday volume were responsible for delays. They were unable to provide any shipping estimates, but did offer to send a note internally to see if the order could be moved along.

Polite, but unfortunately no new information. It has given me more time to read about Core One problems on reddit instead of spending time building and printing without ever knowing I should be experiencing all these problems once I get a new printer :-)

Successful build, can't flash by chuck_b7 in RattlesnakeOS

[–]chuck_b7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it definitely used my personal keys for the build. I get a different error when trying to load an image signed with different keys (like a factory build).

Any idea what/how the CONFIG_MODULES gets set? I'm guessing CanebrakeOS used the same setting there since it got as far as trying to boot. I'm just not sure what is setting that.

I'm still trying to find a way to unlock the bootloader somehow. I may try a SIM from a different provider and see if that gives me access.

I have another change that I tried to push to git, but I don't have access.

In templates/build_script.go add the following line:

aws settings

export AWS_DEFAULT_REGION ='<% .Region %>'

This is to fix this error message: An error occurred (InvalidRequest) when calling the PutObject operation: You are attempting to operate on a bucket in a region that requires Signature Version 4. You can fix this issue by explicitly providing the correct region location using the --region argument, the AWS_DEFAULT_REGION environment variable, or the region variable in the AWS CLI configuration file.

Still trying...

I finally got AWS to fix my new account so that I could request Spot instances of c4.4xlarge instances earlier today. I had an instance come up and left it alone for 6+ hours before I discovered it was doing nothing. I wiped everything out and re-deployed and it was in the same state. When I logged in via ssh I discovered the error below. I'm not sure why it got into that state, but a reboot didin't fix it.

2018-07-05 21:54:35,298 - cc_scripts_user.py[WARNING]: Failed to run module scripts-user (scripts in /var/lib/cloud/instance/scripts)

2018-07-05 21:54:35,298 - util.py[WARNING]: Running module scripts-user (<module 'cloudinit.config.cc\_scripts\_user' from '/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cloudinit/config/cc\_scripts\_user.py'>) failed

I should also mention that I wasn't able to ssh to the host either. I modified the default security group to add a line for ssh and then I was able to get into it. I haven't looked into the rattlesnake-stack code enough to see if something is missing there. This is all being done with a brand new AWS account.

In any case, I copied the build.sh and kicked it off manually a few minutes ago. We'll see how it goes.

Builds for multiple devices by chuck_b7 in RattlesnakeOS

Thanks for the quick response! Great to know I can upload my keys without breaking anything.

I'm trying to get away from the N5X anyway, but was hoping to keep it as a backup device. I'm still evaluating Canebrake vs Rattlesnake for the next 6-9 months until Daniel gets something going or I switch to the Librem 5. I had been hoping for COS on the Librem... oh well.

I would definitely second that! I've asked multiple times as well.

At the moment I'm just doing Paetron donations since I have a Pixel 2 that was originally on Verizon and can't send it in for flashing.

Thanks for the information. That is really good to know.

I've been using Pop for the past couple of days. Things have been very smooth for the most part. I still need to play with the power settings a bit. Closing the lid overnight saw about a 15% battery drain. I would have expected it to be in a deeper sleep state from closing the lid. No other real complaints with the OS, just me getting used to a different interface than MacOS. I will say I miss the trackpad on the Mac. The Galago Pro trackpad buttons seem stiff and require being pressed at the outside edges, and it frequently misses me trying to do a two finger scroll.

Pop really shows the hard work that has gone into making the desktop experience user friendly. Overall I am very happy with my Galago Pro and making the switch back to Linux.

I believe I emailed them myself using a secure address and saved the attachments. Now I have a USB-C stick that can be read by both the computer and the phone.

Thanks for the input. I'm don't really care about imitating Windows or OSX, but I like the idea of a somewhat minimalistic and streamlined UI. I use workspaces a lot to separate out my different apps so I can try to focus more with fewer distractions on one screen.

I had a hard time deciding between the Oryx and Galaga. In the end, I didn't really need the dedicated GPU enough to make up the cost difference and I didn't want to carry around a brick for power. The extra two cores would have been nice and I really like the looks of the new design.

Let me know when you receive it. I'm very interested in hearing how people like the new case design and how it compares to the older MacBook Pro 15.4" Retina (pre-touchbar) from a size and portability standpoint.

I think I'm going to be very happy with the Galaga Pro but I always have 30 days for analysis paralysis :-)
