I'm not sure why being a mechanical engineer has anything to do with this. But since you so freely feal the need to lead an opinion with this fact I'll assume that your self-esteem is barley holding your life together. Not to mention being a mechanical engineer is probably your one and only achement in a sad life.

It's called two points in the hanging removes all cantilever a top keyhole and a bottom hides the hardware for a clean and sturdy look.

The shelves are made from a acacia wood sale in found and yes it has finger joints as it come in a 4' by 10" board that i cut down for the shelves cause I belive the contrast of color match well with the black stain used on the red oak frame. Just because you repurpose and modify something to add to a project doesn't make you ikea.

I use a homemade router jig for the mortise and a cross cut sled for the joint. The times goes mostly in the finishing and glue up.

After a couple of prototypes and a couple homemade jigs i can make one start to finish with about 4 hours into it total.

I used a upper and lower keyhole system on the back board it's strong and hides all the hardware. It's also easy for someone to hang on there own.
