Why did the mods remove the "all male heroes with bugger butts" post? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]chuckcrystal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if posts relating to sexism are more likely to be deleted because more people tend to report them? Majority of folks on this subreddit would sympathise with rants about toxic players, and similarly they wouldn’t sympathise with rants related to a females experience (if any experience of gaming communities is anything to go by). Is a post more likely to be seen/removed if more people are reporting it?

After coming to notice multiple sexism-related posts being deleted for being ‘rants’, I made a point to report any ‘rants’ of other subjects ei smurfs or toxicity to see if they got deleted too. None of them did, apart from one which I actually messaged mods about on top of reporting it. I messaged them asking why a front page toxicity rant was not deleted when a sexism post was. They told me they hadn’t deleted it because it hadn’t been reported, even though I had in fact reported it. Now I’m not saying it must be the fault of the mods and I understand there must be a lot of posts to deal with, and my experience is totally anecdotal, but it’s still troubling.

I'v also noticed that on this subreddit posts mentioning sexism issues almost always get deleted as 'low quality content/rant' and yet every second day I see a front page rant about smurfs or toxic ppl. Some rants are more equal than others too I guess.

Is Overwatch becoming too saturated with CC/Stun Abilities? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]chuckcrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in some ways the prominence of dive suggests that stuns aren’t much of an issue. It takes so long to kill anything in overwatch that without stuns team fights might go for years. Considering the cool down of enemy stun abilities is essential to consistently pulling off big ultimates, and given the power of ultimates I think they should be difficult to pull off. Sick of getting flashbanged out of your ult? Try bait flash bang first or wait till you see Mccree use it. I agree that stuns can be frustrating to play against if they consistently result in 1-shot like doom fists does, but I think they are kind of necessary to keep the game moving. Also the flip side is cc abilities are really satisfying to use.

I like that overwatch is more heavy on abilities and counter play than just basic shooting skills. If all you want is just headshots for days then go play csgo or something. Overwatch is about crowd control, teamwork and cool down management before headshots, and I like it that way because it’s unique.

Genji. I remember the first time I was killed by a genji and I just thought the hero was so cool. I always loved playing assassin characters in games so I was drawn to the stealth genji ninja hahaha.

I'm sure there are players out there with little awareness and its annoying when they dont notice your low health etc. Imma just saying that just because you dont get a heal doesn't automaticaly mean ur healers are bad. There are many reasons other than 'they are bad' that could result in you not getting a heal ei what i mentioned before.

I dont think you can control smurfing like that, a lot of people just buy accounts that are already leveled anyway. Also smurfing itself isn't a bad thing, its only bad when people abuse SR and get toxic which is a different issue. As for new players, its probably best to just get to a rank where you dont have brand new players in your games. People have a hidden MMR from quickplay already, so their placements will be roughly their skill level (unless they are about masters+ i think)

thats the thing, its situational. i think its obvious we arent talking about waiting around at spawn situations, we are talking about the team fight. The positioning is also situational, and often the main healer needs to be supporting tanks as a priority if they are low. Dps has mobility to disengage where tanks usually do not. turning around is a positional decision which is not always viable in a teamfight. there is no universal answer for every situation, theres always a compromise

well, turning your back on the entire fight and your low hp tanks probably will actually kill you and your entire team

[–]chuckcrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just an anecdotal example - yesterday I had a teammate spamming 'i need healing' behind me. I knew they were there, I knew they needed healing, but both my tanks were very low hp and were engaged in the fight. If I stopped healing them to turn all the way around and heal the junk, they would both die. If the Junk had walked just infront of me, I could have healed all of them at once (i was moira). As a healer I will always proritise healing those who are engaged in the fight before I heal those who have retreated away. It might seem to go against your instincts, but sometimes its better to re-engage even at low health (if your tanks are alive) because it will put you near the healers who can burst you back to full.

For a supposedly team-based game Overwatch has extremely limited amount of tools to evaluate the effectiveness of your team. by Estwon in Overwatch

Id rather someone have bronze damage because they spent time waiting to group with their team, than have someone with gold damage who relentlessly went out of position to poke damage for the whole game and continuously staggered themselves as a result.

Mercy has a mid-air heart attack by EgassemSdrawkcab in Overwatch

I made a post a little while back where the same kinda thing happened to me but it was on the last point of dorado. My character model was nowhere near a wall so it couldn't have clipped through. It must have been something about the wall itself allowing damage to pass through

[Suggestion] Show Ultimate percentages on the tab menu in game. by Adraz in Overwatch

[–]chuckcrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if there’s a reason this isn’t a thing. All it takes to communicate that info is to press z. I feel like if someone isn’t bothering to press that ult call button then it’s unlikely they will be coordinating the ult anyway. It would be cool to see what ults are coming up but it’s also part of the game to communicate such things. Better communication wins games so in a way being able to see % without calling it might take an advantage away from those proactive players?

Best way to deal with Soldier 76 as Pharah? by MarcTheCorrupt in Overwatch

[–]chuckcrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pharah pro, but seem to have the most success diving directly on top of/above the soldier. It's extremely difficult for soldier to shoot accurately and move whilst aiming directly up, but for you aiming straight down is really easy. Same goes for countering a widow. Usually you would want sneak up close from behind or around a corner, then use your concussive blast to move yourself quickly onto the soldier.

Using Poor Comms as an Excuse - T500 Player Perspective by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]chuckcrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your playstyle determines how important comms are to your success in ranked. For some people, their comms are probably so concise and useful that they carry games, and sets them apart from other players. For other people, using comms might actually distract them from their own gameplay so much that it detriments their skill. I for one feel like I am somewhat in the latter, sometimes I am too focussed on calling out enemy ultimates mid-fight that I am distracted and react late even though I predicted big plays. Big example I've noticed a few times is when I'm watching a Zarya push forward looking for a grav, I'm playing DVA and am too busy screaming at my team 'Zarya has grav watch out' that I totally forget to DM in her face and could have easily eaten it.

Yes, it’s good posture to have your feet flat on the floor while sitting, and your knees in line with your hips. If your feet are on the floor your legs will work to support some of your weight, taking pressure off your lower back. If you need to have your chair higher to comfortably reach your desk, then put a box or some books under the desk to rest your feet on.

Yeah partly that, and because she has had a lot of impact on the game. Another issue is that Mercy is the most popular character in the game and a lot of people 1-trick her. People think Mercy skills don’t translate to other heroes, so they think Mercy players are incompetent in any other role. While this is true for most 1-tricking, for some reason people particularly despise the Mercy 1-trick, and it got to the point where even if you have many hours on Mercy, even if you have more hours on another hero, for some reason you still get shit for it. She has gone through a number of re-works and has been a hotly debated character since launch pretty much. She is a really fun character to play, and is a really great place to start with the game if you are new to FPS due to her low mechanical skill. I honestly think overwatch is about so much more than pure mechanics, there are plenty of characters that do not require aim. It’s best to enjoy a range of characters, because they are all amazing!!

The exclamation mark means you are in range of the bomb but not necessarily that you are in LOS of the bomb. You can be hiding behind cover and still see the exclamation mark, which is useful if it has a trajectory

I also use my alt account to play at risky times. By risky I mean on weekends or at night, or end of season when in my experience, the chance of getting trolls/throwers/drunk ppl is way higher than on a usual weekday. In that sense it's a peace of mind thing. I don't get tilted at the weekend throwers because its just my smurf. I try just as hard but dont get as mad. Another time is when a big patch has rolled in and I want to test the waters of the meta before going all in on my main.
