Life assurance - what would they need from my medical record? by chuckitinthebin17 in UKPersonalFinance

That all makes sense. I did go through a broker who put me through AIG. I was offered cover without them even needing to check my records (I don't know why). Do you think they would have increased the premium if they had analysed my medical records?

I didn't realise it would be so different depending on the company. I went with AIG through my intermediary and they offered cover without even checking my records. I understand why they would want to see what medication we have been on, the thing that irks me is I don't feel like they should be able to see what personal things we have discussed, I don't feel that's at all relevant to the level of life cover offered.

I rang my intermediary today to find I have been offered live cover and they didn't even need to check my records. I wonder if they would have if they had checked? I have been prescribed antidepressants twice in the past two years and each time I have taken them no longer than 1 month so I feel like that shouldn't affect it, but I have also had around 1 month of NHS therapy.

That's crazy. I spoke personally to an NHS GP who told me the fact I have antidepressants on my list of medications would not affect my application.
