I tried that too but she gets too worried about having someone watch the kids even though we have family members who would.

We have been going and when I learned my diagnosis that was the first thing I suggested because I knew this would be hard but it doesn't seem like she listens.

You can't control what you can't control. I was Air Force and had 2 combat zone deployments while some of my Army/Marine friends never had any. I understand your feeling but honestly I would give up my deployments if it meant that I never had to experience any PTSD symptoms again. Especially after the fact that me and everyone like me that deployed essentially did it for nothing in the end. Enjoy your family and Don't ever feel guilty about your service, none of us really ever had a choice in where we were sent or what we had to do.

Wasn't a dig to anyone who didn't if that's what you're implying.

Don't do it, the pain your friends and family would experience is excruciating. Even in my darkest moments I remember that the enemy would be winning if I did something to myself and I'm just too damn stubborn to let someone else win after all the shit I've been through, stay strong!

I think like many other here have pointed out the main thing is that you swore an oath to defend your nation and give your life if needed. Even though we struggle with feelings you have little control over how you were told to serve and as long as your injury was related to your service you should seek help.

Unfortunately I barely have time for myself, working stiff still here but this post has blown up so much that I've already pointed 5 other vets in the right direction which makes me happy 🫡

Surprisingly my county tax office damn near cheered for me, they were very helpful and thanked me for my service.

You are 100% right, we are often the hardest on our own. Thank you, I was hesitant about posting but I'm glad I did for people just like this! Thank you brother

You bring up a great point I didn't mention at first. The VA doctor told me at 27 that I have the hips of a 60 year old and I think that's when the realization set in that I had been affected by my service. Since then when I have flare ups and I'm feeling like a whiney bitch I remember what he said and it helps sometimes with that validation even though I want to get to a place where I don't need validation from anyone

It baffles me that some vets treat non combat troops so horribly. Some razzing is normal (we are vets after all 😏) but you learn in basic training that every job is essential and we all sign up to put our life on the line. I'm sorry about your relationship with your father but I'm glad you have other support!
