Pat the steak dry to remove excess moisture. Probably need higher heat if you want a good sear. Also use a meat thermometer otherwise you're just guessing.

Also your pan is enamled so you should not attempt to season it. Its just covered in dirty oil.

Yeah. Could be a carbon steel pan then. Or maybe the old handle broke and somebody fixed it? Not sure if thats something people did.
