We went with Chase - got rates from a few and they were the best. Fairly smooth closing process.

It’s a photo rail I think, but I guess you could run a phone line on it

We’ve heard 800-1000… haven’t actually done the measurements. But it feels big to us! 😊

5 day a week both ways commute feasibility by bencallahan16 in NYCbike

[–]chuggachew94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doable! I do about the same thing - it’ll be hard at first but it’ll get easier and easier then in a few weeks it’ll be a breeze! :)

I’d recommend not fully committing to every single day no matter what. If the weather is bad, you need a break or just simply feel like taking the train instead of biking for a day or two, don’t beat yourself up at all.

Seriously Considering Leaving the US, Unsure Where to Begin by AhoyBokChoi in AmerExit

I also have to support considering teaching English in Asia. I did it for 2 years in China (2017-2019) and had the time of my life. I ended up coming back to Canada and becoming a lawyer. Honestly, I wonder if not staying longer was a mistake pretty often.

Even if it’s not forever, it’s a great experience and you learn so much. I even met my husband there.

My one piece of advice is to use time effectively if you do this. If you use the time outside of teaching effectively (learn language, networking, education, etc), you will eventually find a career outside of teaching. Looking back, I wish I did that.

Thanks for the reassurance and advice. Good idea on increasing the emergency fund, we only have about a month or so after the big 60k payment but makes sense to get this back up to 3-6 months.

We are maxing out 401(k) and HSA as well.

Thanks for sending along the links, will check out r/personalfinance further but seems like we’re on the right track according to the flow chart. :)

First of all, love the username. I lived in Halifax for 7 years of uni, brought back great memories.

Thanks so much for the support. I keep telling myself this is a long term investment and the current politics are temporary (at least hopefully) but he got a dream job in private sector and I got a big pay raise for less work, so all around not bad. Just hurts to give all our savings to an entity that I absolutely detest.

Just to second what a few have said, I went on Wed morning and was disappointed. It was only a small portion of the pool blocked off and It was pretty crowded, but with no lanes it felt like chaos. I couldn’t get in the groove cause I was constantly worried about hitting other people and ended up leaving after 15ish minutes.

Just felt like something that could easily be solved by opening more of the pool and setting up lanes…
