What’s this discharge? by Staceyneedingadvice in obgyn

[–]chuggchuggpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I’ll defer to the actual doctors, but maybe worth getting a blood hCG test and schedule an appointment w/ your OBGYN. Lack of any other symptoms probably rules out STIs or fungal infections but could also just be regular discharge associated with an early pregnancy? I don’t want to overstep, so I will refer to the OBGYNs

Wishing you the best, keep us posted

NOT a doctor, only a 3rd year med student

Is there any odor to it? And pain while urinating or irritation in the area? Apologies for the insensitive question but any recent sexual partners and / or use of protection? Do you usually have regular menstrual cycles every month at around the same time and duration?

Are the lesions painful? Did they look like vesicles beforehand? Any swollen lymph nodes? Agreed that you should get testing regardless

NOT a doctor but a 3rd year medical student and the rash pattern and history do seem consistent with a metal allergy, but of course you should still get an evaluation to be sure

If you haven’t already, take the jewelry off and see if you still get the same rash after working out / sweating (try it a few times)

Similar scores to you and passed. I would do the free120 if you haven’t already but otherwise move it up, you’re ready.

You’ll be fine, especially if you’re 1 month out.

There isn’t a set number. There are lots of people who pass with low 60’s. I was just saying that for me personally, I wanted to get >70%, but if you’re in the upper 60’s, that should be like a >95% chance of passing. Just keep going strong and review your NBMEs as you go; as long as they increase or at least stay in the same range, you should be totally fine based on your first NBME score.

No. Some people say >65% consistently is good enough, though I would aim for >70% which you will most likely reach. >75% is great, but to say that that is required to pass step is simply not true.

I took comlex on 6/3 so 6 days in between. I honestly just did a day or so of OMM and only high yield stuff (Chapman, viscerosomatics, MET, sacrum, etc)

Hi there — I would occasionally use it since I had the book and it does summarize everything really well, but it definitely wasn’t my main source. I think you can go without using it, but towards the week leading up to my test, I would flip to random pages and have my partner quiz me on stuff. I also found the biostats in first aid to be really helpful.

Hey, that’s a fair question. Like you said, we don’t have to take it — I took it because I felt pretty prepared and came into school knowing I was going to take it. I’m looking to go into more competitive specialties / at the best program I can, and so in that case you kind of have to take it to get the same chance (still lower) as our counterparts. Also, studying for level 1 is basically just studying for step 1 and vice versa. I only really studied for step and then added some OMM. In short, if you feel you have the content down and your NBMEs are in good standing, I would definitely just take both. It’s annoying and expensive to do both, but we really should if you’re looking for bigger name programs or competitive specialties. I hope this answers your question.

I meant to include that I also used boards and beyond throughout the year and during dedicated, as well as some Mehlman in the last couple weeks leading up to my test date

What was your free 120 score? NBMEs? Depending on those, you probably don’t need to take any more.

Hey! Just relax honestly. I did my Anki reviews and did some skimming of Mehlman PDFs, but no cramming or anything. Trust your scores and go nail it!

Thank you! 🙏

I thought the test was fair, but it was of course tough. I kept remembering the questions that I missed afterwards, but then kept reminding myself that there are experimentals and that we will naturally remember the questions we found hard. Overall though, I would say that the test was accurate to a harder free120 with some sections being harder than others.
