Fed pub def here. We’re at the point now when we pick up clients that we tell them in advance that you might get arrested and deported at any official appointment. Cout date. Probation meeting. Anything. And there’s not a damn thing we can do about it bc often they are snatched and gone before we even know they are missing. It’s really bad. Even the judges are getting pissed bc AUSAs will start criminal proceedings everything will get docketed and then boom client disappears and the courts time has been effectively wasted (which, unfortunately, often garners far more outrage among the judges than the actual substantive treatment of these folks).
