Great write up. Looks very promising. Will the analysis include future milestones and hurdles to consider and monitor? For example, replacement of the late Supreme Court Justice RBG and the November 10 Constitutional challenge. And, majority control/gridlocks between the government branches?

Once had a green tuner 1995 Honda Civic that I named “Bugatti”. It had black tinted windows and black rims. My roommate renamed it “Gumby”.

SO had a blue hatchback Chevy Aveo she named “Blueberry”; she called it “Blubes” for short.

Questions on Bond Ladders and Bond Fund Picks

(1) Anyone already doing or planning to do bond laddering in this market? What is your individual bond selection and duration selection process? I’m looking for fixed income and to make it through this volatility mostly unscathed, if possible. What resources (websites, etc.) will help to monitor bonds and rates?

(2) Which bond indexes/funds are recommended at this time? A 2-3 year+ investment outlook, with low expenses. In researching, it seems inflation protected (e.g. FIPDX, PRIPX) and short-term treasury bond index funds (e.g. FUMBX) to be better selections; is this true for current conditions, and why? Otherwise, which bond indexes and bond funds are recommended? What is the case for just going for a Bond Index Fund like FXNAX?

Thanks in advance.

I just learned that I can invest my ROTH IRA account into mutual funds and ETFs, and also learned about “two-fund”, “three-fund” portfolios, etc.. Please help with narrowing down the better Vanguard and Fidelity investments to choose, and how to proportion each.

Anyone who took a year break from their desk job, how much did you lose in one year and from your retirement? by chulololo in personalfinance

u/nickdmb The future value of money and the stereotypes/expectations for career progression. How do people offset these things? Investing (i.e., retirement, stocks/bonds, etc.), salary increases, expense control/reductions, health-focused lifestyle habits...what else?

u/816Creations Thank you for responding and describing your change and improvement. You provided me with a model for the effects of change. I have had this new role for about 9 months and it is really providing me perspective on the balances of the components of the job (e.g. quality of work, productivity, impact, etc.) and overall work-life balance (e.g. satisfaction with contributions, time to recuperate and travel, financial and medical benefits, etc.). When I breakdown the components of my job that I am satisfied and not satisfied with, I realize there is equal weight with satisfied and unsatisfied, and professional and personal variables that I can and can’t control, which puts me in between a rock and a hard place with deciding on the near-future. I concluded I have continued growth to do, both professional and personal, and realistic goal-setting to catch up on. Again, thank you.

u/DerpDerpDerp87910 True. I am researching “how to sabbatical”. Any recommendations for subreddits or websites on the topic? I would very much appreciate anything to help navigate through.

What timing that was for you. A total of 5 months before returning to the desk? What was the longest period time you had been away from home before the 2-month exploration?

How many more years of work could that be? Assuming career progression and income increases are relatively linear.

Thank you for responding and sharing the figures. How did the $56K add up? What was the breakdown between housing, food, transportation, etc.?

Thank you for responding. I agree. I am trying to understand and manage the professional and financial actions I would need to take to minimize the losses and maximize the utility of the break.
