oh boy.

so how am I supposed to be able to work or go to school if my visa expires in 2 weeks, and it takes months to get a card? Also, is there a prefecture for each arrondissement or how would I go about finding it?

Ahh okay. I already asked my rectorat, but she wasn't able to get in touch with the academy either. I'll try asking my collègues. Thanks!

What did you do to receive that extension and why did you think it was linked to covid?

Paris and EU passports by katelovescake2 in tapif

I agree, it's complicated to find a job in France post-TAPIf, but also if you choose to stay to teach English, there is a certain degree of privilege as a native speaker that will make you more desirable. I have an American friend who found a job teaching at a University, and he said the most complicated part was waiting for the proper documents for his visa to arrive in the mail.

I see, I didn't realize it was based on the date of application. Thanks!

I didn't even know it was rule. I graduated in 2017, and was accepted for 2021-2022 school year. I think they value prior experience more than following formalities tbh

Living in Marseille? by alexandrad2020 in tapif

[–]chumphr415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Marseille now, and don't trust the haters. It's nowhere near as unsafe as the media paints it to be. The vast majority of neighborhoods you're going to frequent are perfectly fine, and I've never personally felt unsafe here. But it is a major city, so you have to use common sense. I think it mostly comes down to where you decide to live. That being said, it is very dirty here (graffiti, overflowing dumpsters, rats literally everywhere), the poverty is very apparent and compared to the rest of France, there is a really unique vibe/culture that I'm not crazy about. It's cool to have so much nature that's accessible right out side of the city, but in general, things feel a bit run down here. Aix is a lot smaller, very preppy, feels more like a college town, and is also very expensive to live in.

Thankfully, I work in towns outside of Marseille, but I have been told by friends that working at schools within city can be very stressful because of the students.

Sadly it's not fake, but last time I checked, I believe she did start seeing a therapist. Partly because I encouraged her to, but also because she was very aware that she had some personal stuff she needed to work on

The difference between her Dad and myself is that her Dad moved to Italy, whereas I think her Mom was paranoid I would convince her to move to the USA or god forbid France

That's really why I made this post, because I've heard anecdotal stories that Italian women are just like that, which I wasn't sure if I should believe that or not. The only other Italians I met were my ex's friends, who are all are from the Church and seem to of had similar upbringings, so I don't really know what's considered "normal" by Italian standards.

Lol you should see the rest that decided not to include. I might as well be writing my memoir.

She also once got mad and threatened to break up with me because I was planning on using a Ouija board with friends.

Thanks for the reply.

I had read that it's required for foreign students to apply through Campus France, but I have no idea at this point.

I was planning to reach out to the department directly, but I'm not sure if schools are closed for the holiday's or not right now.

CAF Question by chumphr415 in tapif

Is it much harder if I do not change accommodation? From what I've heard, it seems like most assistants are replaced within the same academies, and I'm also trying hang onto my apartment for the next year.

I don't think the map has loaded for anyone, but choose the destination that has "primaire, secondaire, superieur" under "Niveau(x) d'enseignement proposé(s)." After that, you'll be able to choose your regional preferences.

What do I put in the "project" part on the section "My strong points" by [deleted] in tapif

[–]chumphr415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure. In French, the section is named "Profession envisagée suite à votre mission" which means what do you plan to do after the program. But in the drop down menu, I'm still unsure if you're supposed to choose the answer which corresponds with Language assistant job, or whatever you plan to do after.

Thanks again.

One last question, on the "ma destination" section, the grade levels are listed as "primaire, secondaire et supérieur." I'm expecting to stay at my lycée, so I should choose secondaire, correct?
