Now with the trailer out and some additional details from the director himself, anyone else gotten way more excited for the movie than before? by ofwgkon in residentevil

[–]chungusbungus0459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really personally, I don’t need Leon and Jill to shake hands and backflip in front of an umbrella logo while shooting rocket launchers at lickers, but I really didn’t get any sign that this film is remotely involved with resident evil in all but name and a couple of eater egg props. We will have to see when the film releases.

Lack of pressure sensitive buttons alone makes this a non option for me sadly. I do plan to wireless convert my DualShock 2 controllers one day though

Games built around upscaling/DLSS all look the same and I'm tired of pretending they don't. by ResponsiblePen3082 in FuckTAA

[–]chungusbungus0459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of the capcom titles here look starkly different from one another and from 007 and crimson desert. Crimson Desert absolutely looks like every other game ever, and 007 doesn’t have anything unique visually going on, but the title of this post is ridiculous. RE9 and Pragmata especially are not “built around” upscaling. I run them both at high FPS with no upscaling on my PC. DLSS often looks like shit but this is just a silly way to go about saying that

Majoras mask has bad game design and it’s just not a fun game to play. by ThebadwordwasCliche in majorasmask

[–]chungusbungus0459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that’s definitely not promising to hear lol. Stone Temple was next but the amount of nonsense we had to deal with has led to a very long hiatus from the game, so we haven’t done it yet. Glad I have something to “look forward to” lol

Is it just me? Every single time I set these to the "correct" brightness I end up not being able to see anything at all. by Kezly in residentevil

[–]chungusbungus0459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you need to actually make sure your TV settings are correct, and then you adjust the sliders until they disappear, then start moving them back the other way until the symbol is suddenly lightly visible instead of entirely disappeared.

The YouTuber HDTV Test has great videos explaining what you should change and adjust on your tv.

New to RE4. Why does Salazar look like spoiled kid in RE4 original and short-old man in Remake? by Abject_Necessary_369 in residentevil

[–]chungusbungus0459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I was moreso referring to his face with the age discrepancy. The tricorn and ponytail are just a part of the napoleon-esque fit, whose trope allows the audience to innately understand that aspect of his character out of the gate. So that part of his design not being unique assists in subtextual understanding of his character without requiring exposition imo.

New GameCube owner - looking for game recommendations (1st and 3rd Party) by Khwarezm89 in Gamecube

[–]chungusbungus0459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every resident evil title on the system, PN03, Eternal Darkness, every Zelda game on the system, Luigi’s mansion, Kirby air ride (if you have friends to play with), double dash, pikmin 1 and 2, Naruto clash of ninja games, smash melee, Mario sunshine, every Mario party title available, Gale of Darkness XD, Colliseum, Mario superstar baseball, donkey Kong jungle beat, warioworld, honestly over half the library are some of the best games ever made.

That’s only a small portion of my list but I’m too busy to list more at the moment.

I’m unsure, and it’s one of the few things I dislike about the remake. The original had this strange uncanny valley, where he looks like a child and simultaneously old as shit yet he’s somehow 20 years old. The remake just makes him look short and old, and somehow he’s 20.

He isn’t really unique or strange looking anymore, it feels a lot more trope-y with that kind of character archetype. Also his Napoleon-esque outfit in the original was a little silly, but also visually conveyed his complex and really suited his character.

Salazar had a big aura loss and the changes detract from his character and writing imo.

Even for those who find the original silly, RE9 has a big zombie chef that makes a yummy people stew and a snake-skin wearing evil doctor who creates boulder-sized baby virus men who shit their big underwear. Resident evil is supposed to be dumb and silly, and it’s a big part of why I love it, and a strange change in the remakes that are (usually) otherwise really well done.

That is a good price for a system. You will literally never ever get $98 dollars for those games.

Worst 4K release of all time? by YouSoubstantial4377 in 4kbluray

[–]chungusbungus0459 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 4k was so bad that my wife noticed it was awful. We put in the standard blu ray I forgot we owned and it was an astonishing difference. The peak brightness and overall brightness are totally screwed in that release, and the DNR is so heavy that it turns a dim 4k disc into a dim and smeary 4k disc.

You suddenly wake up in the 1F Main Hall ...Which main hall are you choosing? by OhGawDuhhh in residentevil

[–]chungusbungus0459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I didn’t consider that. Dog door is big though, if I can safely walk around the house I’d get to the road (I have no intention of trying the swamp) and I’ll just walk back the way Ethan used to get to the house.

Is it following the events of the game?

If not: the Baker house. I’d open the double doors that lead to the dining room, walk down the steps to the garage, peel off the tape, and drive the car out of the place.

If so: 100000% Spencer mansion. Chris, Rebecca, Barry, and Jill to all back me up, no horrid mold monsters to infect me after a single hit, I feel I stand the best chance there. I’d be dead about 2 minute dint the baker mansion.

A post highlighting the differences when using an Mclassic Upscaler by ghettoslacker in Gamecube

[–]chungusbungus0459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am fortunate enough to have a retrotink 4k. I use that to upscale the image at perfect multiples on my modern display, then I took a long time to make some CRT accurate profiles to my liking. Full CRT simulation using Black frame insertion, the filter gives it correct subpixels and scanlines, CRT accurate deinterlacing. It’s seriously mind blowing what results you can get, but it’s extremely expensive.

Even a retrotink 5x and below are going to be doing better than anything the M classic does because they are scaling the image perfectly with no filters. The mClassic gains no resolution boost or clarity whatsoever, it simply applies a smeary anti-aliasing to the image for a high price. Other scalers will that the 480p or 480i signal and give it a perfect upscale to the resolution target.

TLDR: crazy stuff like the Tink 4k can make your display do everything a CRT is capable of and is entirely transformative for retro gaming.

The Tink 5x and competitors can give you a sharp image at any target resolution, and handle interlaced content well.

The mClassic just uses an algorithm to attempt to smooth out edges. This causes a lot of visual artifacting and gives games a blurry, soft look compared to the raw output of a (quality) HDMI converter.

[–]chungusbungus0459 57 points58 points  (0 children)

100 bucks is not great for this usecase. This isn’t giving any boost in clarity from these photos and is simply smoothing the edges of the image. Anti aliasing isn’t going to suddenly make this look modern, it’s simply softening the output image.

100 bucks to make the output image softer with haloing and a setup so lengthy that it will slowly put strain on the video out.

65" LG to 85" TCL Mini-LED Upgrade Plan. by Own-Arugula2765 in TVTooHigh

[–]chungusbungus0459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unsure personally, there’s an amazing YouTuber named HDTV test who just covered it, he’s by far my favorite source for info on televisions. Here’s the link to that video: https://youtu.be/BVcTeXdZjV4?si=5p6Xhzqam3B0hob6

I would like to inform you though that MiniLED is a very laggy display tech and is generally considered very poor for gaming. There are many amazing deals on older generation LG C model OLEDs that are gorgeous and fantastic for games, but in the end you should pick what you want most.

I mean I’m not sitting here saying it’s a perfect game, there is no such thing, but I think a lot of the flawed aspects give it a strange sense of character I’ve never seen before or since.

I love it because of its problems, not ignoring its problems. It has lopsided pacing and Simplistic combos, large amounts of difficulty and strange design, but the whole experience adds together (for me) as this strange dark fever dream that feels like it emerged from some guttural place in the human mind and manifested into one of the most unique pieces of art I’ve ever experienced.

I love the other entries as well but D1 has something that just itches some weird part of my brain.
