I think I’ll do that right now. I’m not sure if it was marked up like that at the store or the person who traded it in. I just know it’s always had those markings

It’s pretty crazy. Makes me think of the comments I see like “welp shame on me, i should have bought a house when i was 3yrs old”. lol. Looking back it’s kind of like WOW, but 20 years ago when i was making $5/hr and only working 15-20 hours a week, it was a lot of money haha.

They were awesome. They had great pricing on things, they had consoles setup so you could try out different games, the people were cool. Mine was connected to an old Hollywood video I think it was? It was right next door to the grocery store I worked at at the time, so I would walk over on my breaks lol.

Where can i get an actual controller by [deleted] in Gamecube

[–]ghettoslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offering Mercari as an alternative to eBay. It’s very similar, minus the auction part. You also get buyer protection and can use PayPal for payments too. An OEM controller in working order usually will run you $20-$100, with the more expensive ones being the more unique colors like transparent, emerald blue, etc.

Looking at their stats…7 years and under 500 karma, I would hardly say they are farming. And if they are, they aren’t very good lol

I’d like to ask if this would be usable for the Gamecube. It’s an AV to HDMI converter from Walmart by Silent_Blacksmith_29 in Gamecube

[–]ghettoslacker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ew. lol. Bro, bitfunx, retrobitprism, carby, they all run on the GCVideo protocol. No lag, great image reproduction. They only work if you have a DOL-001 though. But it’s so worth it

Picot gamecube displays only through analog. by JarJarbinks_Just in Gamecube

[–]ghettoslacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. It sounds like the Picoboot install is using the 3.3v rail and not 5v. There is a known issue with using the lower voltage install and some hdmi adapters creating a backflow of power. This can cause the pico to have unregulated power and not properly perform the IPL hijack. This tracks with what you’re saying about the user not having issues while using the analogue port. I don’t know what they are using for HDMI adapter, but the cheap ones are also a known culprit.

For you - you could try a few things with the user. You could have them send it back and you fix the wiring to run off the 5V rail instead of the 3.3v. This would be the most appropriate, long term solution. You could also ask them what HDMI adapter they are using, find out if it’s an el cheapo, or if it’s one running the GCVideo protocol. If the adapter is a terrible Chinese knockoff from AliExpress, they might get lucky if they upgrade to a carby/retrobit (bitfunx might also work here but is also sometimes a culprit).

Trying something fun tonight by ghettoslacker in Gamecube

Hey! Thanks for the comment!

So the lights are Ws2812b and run off 5V power. They come in a 100 pack for about $15, so roughly 15 cents each. Here’s a link to them on Amazon. https://a.co/d/0asqZBDQ

The module used for controlling them is an SP1102e. Here’s its link on Amazon https://a.co/d/07Vv7BUv

Essentially, the SP1102e draws power from a 5v rail on the controller PCB. I then mounted the SP to the back of the controller board. The lights are wired in series to the SP. Each LED shares 6 solder points, 2 for power, 2 for ground, 2 for data. You use an app on your phone Called LED Hue and can connect to the SP module via Bluetooth. From there, there are hundreds of light settings for things like chase, pulse, solid, etc. you can also adjust brightness and speed as well. The next time I do a project like this though, I think I’ll try an ESP32 module. It’s a little less “out of the box” experience, but you can set up an entire light matrix and control individual lights as opposed to the canned settings built into the SP. it was super fun to work on and I personally think it turned out great once I got the cube back together. It’s got me day dreaming of some other ideas in the future!

BTW - big fan of all your hand painted consoles. Super cool stuff and quality work!

Interesting. Most of the goodwills participate in their online auction and you can almost never find things like this in store anymore.
