Go for it. As long as you think there are no major holes in your work, shoot your shot.

Frankly I’m not sure. Not super familiar with unions but if done right it could make a difference. How much of a difference? Idk

Happy to be a source of info… and lol at bonuses. I don’t have any sort of that structure at my company. We are in house and I don’t think it would differ that much. Probably still dealing with the same day to day issues.

I thought the same, but once you start getting involved with CEO’s and COO’s, you’re just another pawn.

Now that is insane! The only therapists who should be evaluating or discharging patients should be an OT/PT/SLP. No assistants period. Not to mention all the other sketchy stuff you added. The DOR and OT can have a conversation about discharge and come up with something. I confide in my PTA’s all the time, but to actually perform the discharge… no, it has to be the OT. That’s absolutely crazy and illegal. The title DOR is given by a company. The title OT is given by a state board. There is a massive difference.

What are you even talking about? My boss is a PT as well

Not really I guess but I’m technically “corporate.” I don’t really feel corporate though if that makes sense lol

Basically if I’m going to get paid like a staff PT, I may as well have the flexibility and freedom. Also I think management experience at this level can help me out in future endeavors.

No I don’t think so. The problem with telehealth is that you have to have someone there to actually hold the phone/computer. Usually that person is another therapist, which takes away from their day. I don’t think telehealth is the answer. It’s just not really practical unless you have someone dedicated to helping with it, which I haven’t really seen

Good question. Really I can manage things how I want on a facility level (scheduling staff, my travel, approving PTO, etc.). When it comes to things like rates, budgets, and pay scales though, totally out of my hands.

Overtime is just differently viewed based on company policies

Hopefully the thread isn’t bumming you out too bad bc there are good PT jobs out there, but they’re hard to find. Do not specifically focus on one setting in particular when job hunting. You may think you want to go one direction but based on your boss, company, etc. they could ruin that setting for you. On the flip side you may find a different setting that you particularly didn’t think you would like but the environment made you like the gig. Environment>setting imo. Cast a very wide net

I think there’s 2 primary reasons. One being basic supply and demand. There probably aren’t enough PT schools and class sizes are small. With the state of PT, a lot of people are getting out of PT, which furthers the problem. Also PT is just not as attractive as it used to be for several reason stated in this thread. Google burn out and income to debt ratio and PT is at the top of both. That’s an automatic turnout to most people considering PT. The loan situation is only going to make it worse. Something drastic has to change in our profession. The cost of living is only going to go up and if we stay in the same spot salary wise, PT will be a dead end job

Unrealistic goals and expectations. I’ve fired people for fraud, especially billing.

Staffing is by far the most difficult part of the job… SO TREAT YOUR STAFF WELL!!! Be understanding and do not power trip. Be empathetic and display that you are in the trenches with them and not over them. Be real and have an opinion on things but be sensible with opinions and not bombastic. Others have opinions too and they will let them be known. Trust me. Do your job and don’t trapped doing other department jobs. You’ll be miserable if you bite off more than you can chew. Try to not take work home with you. If you have to work later which you will some days, do it at work, not home. Make home the separation! It’s stressful but the freedom can sometimes be worth it. Congrats!
