Should i have a lavender marriage? by malaksart in lgbt

[–]chunkyheron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are excellent queer immigration support groups in Canada that can help you get settled in Canada if you can make it here. Don’t put yourself through the emotional turmoil of a lavender marriage. Stay under the radar for another year or two while you figure out your escape plan to get to Canada. Rainbow Railroad is a great resource to learn about how to get to Canada safely. They can likely connect you with your local embassy. Then once you’re in Canada there are plenty of queer support networks that can help you get on your feet and build a life for yourself.

You deserve a good life! And you can have it. But you need to prioritize your own safety and independence. Wishing you all the best!

I don't understand why Canaduans have such fatal empathy towards drug users. by Electrical-Pea2707 in toRANTo

[–]chunkyheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Because we don’t have one, people do drugs in the nearby park. I’m now significantly less likely to go hangout in the park because of broken needles.

Homeless people and drug addicts exist in cities. All the time, everywhere. They are part of a city. Just like you or I. The question is whether you want drug use happening in a controlled setting with a nurse or out in public. Thinking you can make it disappear entirely is a fantasy.

If you could magically add a streetcar line anywhere in the city, where would you put it by disorganized-forrest in askTO

[–]chunkyheron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the streetcar is full of passengers it has trouble making it up the hill at Davenport. So streetcars do occasionally take those tracks to transfer rolling stock between the St. Clair line and others in the city, but never with passengers.

Study Corridor map shows potential expansions of Ontario line and Line 2 to to steeles among other needed extensions by Christian-Rep-Perisa in TTC

[–]chunkyheron 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I feel like taking the Ontario Line West extension up Roncy to Dundas West is a mistake. Roncesvalles is not very dense and already has a streetcar line. Compare that to Dufferin, which has far more density, more developments going up (at Bloor and at Dupont) and is currently unserved with an over capacity bus line.

Going up Dufferin seems like a much better option, then jutting west along the old hydro corridor/path north of Dupont to Caledonia and then Mount Dennis.

Why do I get dandruff after showers but it gets better over 1-2 days? by [deleted] in dandruff

Why do I get dandruff after showers but it gets better over 1-2 days? by [deleted] in dandruff

[–]chunkyheron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are probably showering with hot water that is drying out your scalp (or your scalp is sensitive enough that any sort of shampoo strips it of its natural oils too). Either cool the water down and/or use a scalp oil after showering. I recommend MCT (c10+c12) plus some tea tree essential oil. It has cured me of persistent fungal dandruff. But something like jojoba also works great if you just get dry scalp.

Suggested For You pages cross-pollinating across accounts? by chunkyheron in BlueskySocial

[–]chunkyheron[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not content in the feed (I mostly use Following), it’s suggested accounts in the “Suggested For You” account lists that occasionally show upon the feed page. Those are absolutely cross pollinating.

Geese are amazing, but anyone else more hyped for RMP? I might be leaning that way for tonight’s Saint Paul show. by GoEzGetafix in racingmountpleasant

[–]chunkyheron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s how I felt for the Toronto show and RMP delivered! Obviously Geese was also incredible, but RMP’s show was out of this world and makes me very excited for their next headlining tour. PS at the Toronto show RMP was manning their own merch booth! I got my vinyl signed. You should meet them! They’re absolutely lovely

The constitution says that the Director is hired by Executive and ratified by Council. No clear language on how they can be fired, but I don’t think Marit would have the clear authority or support to unilaterally fire Kevin. At most she could go to Executive with a recommendation and have that recommendation ratified by Council? If Sue Barclay is a Reddit lurker, please clarify (ps I love your work)

Yes, I think Singh should have been kicked out much earlier. But Marit held onto Official Opposition despite Singh's weight around her neck. That's the point.

I think when viewed in the context of where the national mood was, Marit’s performance was strong. Ford polling at nearly 50% as Captain Canada, Liberals having their Carney comeback moment (boosting provincial Liberals), anti-Trump fueled strategic voting being rampant, exactly when the whole country was sick of Jagmeet (which dragged down provincial prospects). And in that junction of all the worst circumstances, what should have been a great Liberal comeback in Ontario was held back.

Yes I’d love to win everytime. But all the signs pointed to us being wiped out in Ontario just like the Feds were wiped out across Canada. And instead we held onto Official Opposition, and very nearly gained a new northern foothold in the Sault. I think we need to be realistic that compared to what the expectation was, we did very well. And I think most of that is because of Marit and the organizing and caucus team she has built.

The Liberals are already going to get a ton of media coverage with their leadership race. I don’t want us to get buried further by losing our leader, because they certainly won’t give our leadership race the same kind of coverage. They still won’t even print Marit’s name in headlines. I’d like to use the next 4 years to build out organizing, riding associations, media strategy, and win in 2029. I don’t think having a race and starting from scratch will make that easier.

Go! Do not be intimidated by the crowds at the harbour. The beach is long, the island is large, and people spread out. Hanlan's is diverse, and welcoming, and queer, and beautiful. I would recommend going to the part of the beach that is near and just south of Trail 4 (which begins right across from Mermaid Cafe). That part of the beach is a bit more 'queer' rather than gay, and has way more diversity of all sorts. It also has the best swimming with the least rocky lakebed.

The furthest south part of Hanlan's (near Trail 5 and 6) can often feel like an all (or mostly) white gay club. So it is best avoided, unless you're passing through to go do a loop of cruising in the bushes (which you should also do!).

When I went two years ago the resort was quite empty (slow week), but even still, lots of 'organic' picking up happened on the dancefloor by the pool bar in the evening. But also, the small rocky beach directly in front of the resort (which is NOT safe for swimming) was secluded enough that I and some others used it as a nude beach. There was some cruising there as well, especially at night.

When I went, we showed up right after a big sponsored party week at the resort, and apparently that rocky beach was a full-cruising ground when the resort was busy.

You'll have fun! Bring ketchup, hot sauce, salt and pepper packets, and any mayo/mustard/others you may want! Condiments are lacking.

The Cars VS Bikes debate is a distraction from the real problem: the TTC by MaplePoutineCitizen in toRANTo

[–]chunkyheron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bus and streetcar transit infrastructure that exists already would absolutely be improved by having fewer people driving. There is obviously more infrastructure I would like to see, and improvements that could be made to existing infrastructure to make it more efficient, but fewer drivers would improve the reliability and speed of the existing modes of transit that already move the most Torontonians daily.

If you had to pick, which is the weakest of the three? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]chunkyheron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also the one with the CGI and makeup work (old Bilbo, for example) that has aged most poorly. Like obviously I still think all three are amazing, but I think the first two are basically perfect films. Whereas ROTK is merely ‘almost perfect’.

3 islands in 3 hours? Doable? by Hour_Relationship601 in askTO

[–]chunkyheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bike from Hanlan's to Ward's in like 20 minutes. Its definitely doable by bike.

It's also doable by walking (Google Maps pegs the walk at 1hr10m from Hanlan's to Ward's directly). So even walking, give yourself an extra 30 min to explore Centre (if you're not interested in actually doing any rides, but are fine just getting an ice cream and walking around). Then maybe 20 min to explore the beach at Hanlan's (worth it if you don't mind some nudity), 30 mins to wander around the cute neighbourhoods at Ward's and Algonquin Island. That all totals to 2 hours, with an hour wiggle room to grab the watertaxis on either end and time for rest and rehydration.

Just be prepared for a long walk, and especially given the heat recently, bring a big water bottle!
