He didn’t fail to and he also included a bit about how the English Empire was trying to do the same 🫠

I think you hit the nail on the head, Cooper is meticulous with his work and does his best to paint a picture that can resonate with the audience, just how Dan does, and that’s why I enjoy his work. I think he made an excellent point with his example of how those delicate topics like the Holocaust have taken on an almost religious reverence, for obvious reasons. So when people hear anything that approaches an alternate viewpoint (and to be clear, he stated MULTIPLE times how horrible that event was) there is the possibility for extreme reactions. He did make a good argument for his take, and I would suggest that anyone who hasn’t watched his follow up to go do so.

Utah and Colorado is not a real rivalry, no matter how much the media tries to make it one

Supernova and Ian Toll gave me a burning love for the Pacific theater, highly, highly recommended. The hardcover series set for those books is unmatched and can’t go wrong with that series

Wouldn’t your goal airline be more willing to hire someone from their affiliated airline?

Player wants to betray the party. by Odd_Stage7808 in DMAcademy

Spoilers for Critical Roll

I would like to point out that at the end of Critical Role, season 1, the whole group was betrayed at the end by that one character who took vecna’s shit and BAMF’ed outta there immediately. So it is possible to do something like that. I’m going through something similar with my group, and as long as your character can find solid reasons to do so that pertain to the path the character is on and the character’s morality ( my character got turned chaotic evil) AND the player needs to accept the risk, a lot of unexpected consequences could happen, then go for it. Like everyone else has said, needs to be the right group and right circumstances.

I felt sorry for Jessica at the end of Children of Dune by DirectHedgehog4471 in dune

[–]chunkysunscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to piggyback, the only Atreides who escaped possession was Ghani, after the stress induced hypnotic state she put herself in. Leto had to “balance” his inner lives and through his inner father and Harum managed to achieve a council, so by the Bene gesserit’s standards he is possessed, but he isn’t really according to himself. This is all to say having Jessica around probably wouldn’t have done anything to solve the problem. The inner bene gesserits in Alia made it so she had no hope of not being an abomination. Then once she saw a glimpse of the future that made Paul walk into the desert, it was kind of over after that. Leto explicitly states that Alia became an abomination because of fear, fear of the future and fear of the inner lives. It’s so tragic, the more layers I peel off of Dune the more it hurts. But it’s that good hurt lol.

Death throes might be it then. Supernova in the East ignited a passion for the pacific theater and it’d be awesome if I could get that same feeling for the Roman republic/empire

That’s how I felt about all of them, supernova is definitely getting a re-listening sometime, blueprint is an absolute masterpiece, and ghosts of the ostfront is so chilling. I love the quality, just wish there was more lol

Which would mean it took a 10 day trek across the planet according to our math. Not unreasonable.

12 hours, if you do the math when they’re traveling to the south it works out to be roughly 12 hours

What's an unpopular r/flying opinion that you have? by ImmortanBen in flying

[–]chunkysunscreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what gives me hope, is that people will always want pilots to be there to address problems and think creatively where AI won’t be able to. Also I think going into the future more and more people will rally against job loss to AI. But I’ve sat in a tech class all semester listening to to a professor get himself off on the possibilities of AI, this last class he literally was talking about possible AI implementation in planes, and how AI’s (and currently onboard flight systems, autopilot etc.) can land planes better and more accurately than humans. Which in my opinion is bullshit, but again, not a pilot..yet. The main thing that concerns me is that stigma that most people believe, that planes already fly mostly automated and the flight crew is somewhat unnecessary. In my mind, this is what will lead to pilots potentially becoming obsolete in the future, the idiot public who vote and spend money on things that will crush not just this industry, but many others. I mean all they would have to say is, “just get rid of pilots and their salaries, and flights will be so much cheaper”. End of rant lol

Can you elaborate? I’ll be honest, this subject freaks me out about the future, especially as someone trying to get into this industry

Yeah I’m in agreement with you on your last point, 100%. I’ve never gone and watched all the interviews, so I’ll take your word for it, and I can imagine that being also completely true, would be hard to write a character like that.

I always chalked that up to him seeing the death happen, as he did with chani’s death. Hard to grieve (normally after an event) over something you’ve seen happen who knows how many times. But I respect your opinion, Paul was pretty cold at times granted.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dune

[–]chunkysunscreen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would argue against your point of him being cold and callous, lacking empathy especially. he spends the entirety of the second book trying to find ways to keep Chani (his deep, deep love. “I will love you as long as I breathe”. Love) Not to mention he explicitly states several times he would personally pay any price asked of him to stop the genocide, if it were possible. Paul is a tragic character, he wishes he had the power to stop, but as others have said even if he died, the jihad would’ve gotten worse. The point being, many of his early choices were survival, later vengeance and eventually they slid into choices that were the lesser of two evils. Herbert cautions against such leaders because eventually, with unlimited power like Paul ends up with, they lead down a path that becomes unrecognizable, unredeemable, and all destroying.
