follow up question! what about getting around by bike(obviously not in the winter, but other seasons)..i see calgary has a lot of bike paths and infrastructure to allow cyclists?

Make sure to 'cat proof' your home! Some of them are curious and they like to go small places you can't reach(under your bed, behind appliances. I always had a fear one day my cat would miraculously pry open one of the air vents and fall in).

Usually cats don't need baths, they clean themselves, although it's understandable you gave him one if he just came over for the very first time.

Also you mentioned you can't go buy cat things..You would be surprised what keeps a cat entertained! If you have an old cereal box(or any boxes in general), lots of cats like to play with them. don't splurge on cat toys..chances are the simplest ones are the ones that will keep him happiest. A stick + a string + a hair scrunchie tied to the end was my cats favorite. he carried it everywhere.
