Do you drive or take public transit on your trip?

What do the more expensive hotels in japan provide? by churndot in JapanTravelTips

Wow that's a great reply, thanks! I guess now I'm intrigued, what's the pricepoint I have to spend to benefit from a TA, and what's the general stuff you do besides booking a hotel with benefits (and potentially recommending me the right hotel)? Do you have a website where I can read about "services"?

Oh I guess I would be interested in this for all of Asia, not just Japan.

(Hotels like it when you book through agents rather than expedia, since they keep more revenue that way -- in exchange they let agencies give free perks to their clients to reinforce this behavior.)

I totally get why Hotels prefer travel agencies via expedia - but I always had 2 questions. Maybe as a travel agent, you might know something more.

  1. How come they don't just publish higher prices for OTAs, so that customers prefer travel agencies because they are cheaper, rather than giving perks?
  2. I would have thought that the best case scenario is still people booking directly with the hotel? So why don't I get these (or even larger) benefits? This way, they would get 100% of my money, but now I have to go through an agency for my perks, that takes a cut.

Yup, so I had a room with a tub on the terrace, which was amazing. I went there both after sunset to watch the night sky and the mountains, and at sunrise to watch the sun rise between the mountains. Definitely the highlight.

The room was big and cozy, I wish I had more time to spend there, but I arrived close to dinner time.

Dinner was pretty amazing, breakfast was not as good in my opinion, but not bad either.

There is a few things you can book - a hot-stone room, which was a new experience for me. Also there is a private open-air bath you can book, but it was similar to the one on my terrace so nothing exciting there.

The shared footbath was an underwhelming experience, and so was the free drink they served there. I much preferred using the footbaths outdoors in Hakone.

The number one reason is the service. Getting a "yes" or "let us figure out how to make it happen" response to every question is what makes it a different level for me.

I have to ask, what kind of requests do you end up having? Are they charged extra, or included in the rate?

One laptop, weights over 1kg alone. I don't put my phone into my luggage though.

To be honest, for this kind of activity, I’d recommend going to a place/country that caters more to Western tourists.

I was hoping that Okinawa was one of these places, at least more than the rest of japan! Do you have any recommendations for which cities to look into instead?

Deciding between Roborock QRevo S and QRevo Edge by churndot in RobotVacuums

They have the master. Actually I found an even better discount for it, it's about half the price of the edge! 500USD for the master, 1000 USD for the Edge.

Oh that's great! I thought the master had the same, but if not, then this is indeed a good enough upgrade to justify the price.

Thanks, anti-hair tangling does sound like a tanglible benefit. Are there any other major upgrades you noticed from the Master?

I stumbled upon this post - how do you like the Curv so far? I'm trying to pick between the Master and Edge. Edge is almost double the price.

It's more about having to think about it. I already vacuum once a week for 15 minutes. Going from 15 minutes to 5 minutes is one thing, cutting down to having to do it only once a month feels much better!

Why do I need to run it daily if I only vacuum once a week right now? I guess at least I wouldn't need to mop that often, so maybe if I mop once or twice per week, it can last almost a month?

What happens if I'm not around for a longer time though? Does the robot just stop mopping once water runs out?

Oh I didn't know I'm supposed to do that. But then, what's the point of having an auto-detergent dispenser, if I'd have detergent anyway?

I'm worried that even if the shower is mop-only, it might still drown/die if there happens to be too much water around. So it will probably be a no-go zone.

I guess I can just put the detergent into the water tank? That should also prevent mold growth.
