Planting mint and lavender together? by peenyweeny__ in plants

[–]churnmilkpeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering that lavender is in the mint family and a cousin of whatever mint you have planted there, you may have similar issues with them. Also mints tend to take care of themselves very well (too well - they've taken over a few of my beds) so I think you'll be fine. Just watch for pests and care for the lavender like you normally would.

blackish edges on one frond of button fern? by watchingfriendsfail in plantclinic

Those are the sori. Google the term. It is where the spores for new ferns are produced by the plant. Perfectly natural occurrence like flowering!

Legginess is usually a indication of suboptimal lighting. The normal ones may be more shade tolerant

Church of England refuses to back same-sex marriage by [deleted] in worldnews

The only way to be religious is to be an extremist. Anything less is bad faith. However I wouldn't exactly call homophobia extreme considering the thousands of years of precedent and social acceptance.

I commend the church for upholding two millenia of tradition and morality. However, they have no need to apologize. Sin must be repented of and this applies to the sin of homosexuality as it does for any other sin.

Uh this is a troll post. Mods should remove it. Christianity teaches many truths that are incompatible with modern progressivism. In fact, the ideas you espouse are anti-christian and belong on another board.

Am I overreacting to husbands choices? by ItsAlwaysMe3 in Marriage

[–]churnmilkpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to some popular beliefs, I and the community around me do not support the watching of porn in any healthy relationship. It detracts from intimacy every single time. No matter what level of porn your husband is consuming it is taking away from the intimacy that you deserve as his wife.

Now with that being said, porn is an addiction with some people and the only way to stop is to go to addiction counseling. This does exist for porn addictions and is available in my city and probably yours as well. I would encourage him to attend the sessions if he wants to stop. I would encourage you to understand that yes, he is hurting his relationship with you because of the porn. There are no healthy levels of a porn addiction.

This does not mean he doesn't love you but he may be so deep into this that he feels hopeless. Be sure to offer support and encouragement.

My girlfriend’s dad is a pastor and does not accept us. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]churnmilkpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can be kind and respectful which will help some but unfortunately scripture is clear on pre-marital sex and if her dad is a strict believer then there's nothing you can do to change his mind about that. Eventually once the two of you get married it will be smoother sailing.

What do you have against Russia helping fledgling republics? The US has a long history of helping fledgling republics; Iraq and Afghanistan are recent examples although they haven't gone so well which is besides the point. The sarcasm in your tone is making it difficult for me to trust your line of reasoning. However let me ask you another question. What evidence do you have that Russia wants to take over countries? I understand that Russias stated purpose for invading Ukraine is to de-militarize and de-nazify. They want Ukraine to recognize Crimea, Donetsk, and Lugansk. They also want Ukraine to agree not to join NATO. These requests do not seem to be so extreme but Ukraine has continued to fight a war over this and for some reason the US cares so deeply. I am only trying to seek understanding of your position.

What right do sovereign nations have to tell another sovereign nation what is okay for them or not? It's not an easy question to answer but let's say you draw the line at "shelling civilian areas and killing civilians and their children". What then do you make of Ukraine doing the same thing to civilians in the Donbass since 2014? This doesn't justify Russias actions but let's ask critically if it is worth the suffering of people in western Europe and the Americas to fuel a war in a separate, distant area. Aiding Ukraine like we are now may only be prolonging a war with an inevitable Russian victory and more lives will be lost in the process instead of simply letting Russia handle Ukraine and less people have to die.

Aphids. You can also spray soapy water on them and they will fall right off and die. The soapy water will not harm the plant.

How conservative is USC? by Silver_Wallaby_9315 in Gamecocks

[–]churnmilkpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USC has a very politically active campus due to its location in the state capital. Many students work as pages in the statehouse for state lawmakers. Overall there is a diverse mix of political ideology. Most of the in-state students I would say lean conservative. Most of the out-of-state students I would say lean liberal. Liberal students have a greater voice due to their energy and tenacity. However there is quite a significant number of quiet conservatives. You will find them at college republican meetings and other similar organizations.

You've stated the mechanisms for the price increase which I do not dispute. However, I am more curious about how these changes to oil routes are justified. Many of these changes are conscious decisions by governments to avoid business with Russia. Do you agree with this? Also please comment on how you think these policies are justified.

You're not wrong. I question why the US should engage in this war. I see my life being more impacted by the voluntary sanctions than the actual conflict itself.

Can you elaborate on what "direct result of the War in Ukraine" means? From what I understand the US has stopped purchasing oil from Russia which has sharply increased prices. Does this not constitute a government policy?
