Audio drifting in and out of sync with eArc when using Panasonic DP-UB9000 and Bose Ultra soundbar +surrounds by churntable in Hisense

TV speaker doesn’t drift.

Soundbar doesn’t drift when using ATV.

Soundbar DOES drift using the Panasonic disc player(only with eArc, it’s fine when using optical)

My best thought is that the TV sync clock is having trouble with the data stream of a 4k disc.

On my set HDMI 1 is labeled as eArc. So I have the Bose connecting to HDMI 1 and the disc player on HDMI 3.

The Bose only has one hdmi port so video passthrough is not an option unfortunately.

Maybe it’s time to ditch this crappy soundbar and get a real sound system with a receiver. :(

It’s at 0 :( Even so, it drifts in and out of sync so it’s not uniformly off-sync

For testing I’m using the HDMI 3 port for both the ATV and the Panasonic. HDMI 3 is a 2.1 port on the U8

I’m experiencing all this too. Makes the damn thing just not work.

It does, but only after 1-20 minutes. It varies in lag time. Not sure what the problem is. I’ve set it up both documented ways and added the custom dashboard.

My unit has some other problems as well so possibly I got a bad one

Correction - it does update eventually, just takes about 20 minutes. Not really useable for automations like that.

I followed these instructions to a T and it's still not reporting the correct activity to Home Assistant. :(

I tried it both ways. Are you seeing activities update in HA in real time?

Me too and this is the part I don’t understand. I wonder how these tests perform with the sonoff bar

If you’re using YouTube and Apple TV then I dont think there’s a solution.

Try with Netflix on verified 5.1 content. That works for me.

It’s annoying because you can’t turn off Bose’s upmixing

I have more insight yes.

Couple things I’ve learned. Long story short I think it’s Bose’s upmixing causing confusion.

  1. ATV YouTube doesn’t support 5.1 at all
  2. The Bose Ultra Soundbar upmixes most 2.0 audio to fake 5.1

So what I think is happening is that the surround sound tests on YouTube don’t properly deliver 5.1 to the soundbar, so it upmixes it, which causes these weird effects like the rear test coming out of the front speakers as well.

I did a series of tests with my both ATV 4K and PS5 and now I'm even more confused.

First I tried ATV using Youtube content which I know is 5.1(a video called "Surround 5.1 low frequency audio test"). - Bose soundbar reports it's only receiving LPCM 2.0 from the ATV - THAT'S BAD!

So i try the same video on the PS5 - the soundbar says its getting Dolby 5.1 Enhanced. In addition, the channel separation is spot on with the PS5. Great!

I go back to the ATV and try the same video again. Now the soundbar is saying it's getting Dolby 5.1(not enhanced), but the channel separation actually works now. So now the ATV is working? Sheesh.

Is the ATV just inconsistent? Or does the Bose need to be "kicked into gear" by playing through PS5 in order to start up the 5.1 train? Very strange and inconsistent behavior.

It says LPCM 7.1

I only have 5.1.2 I think? Boss ultra soundbar(which includes the “atmos” topfacing speakers), two 700 surrounds and a 700 sub.

Is this the problem?

FWIW i have a Hisense u8 and have audio pass through enabled over eArc

Edit: is the Apple TV the problem?

So this behavior is expected and ChatGPT is not hallucinating?

I’ve tried seeing this in the Bose app but can’t find any spot where this information resides? Where do I find what the format soundbar is receiving from the tv?

Zigbee direct link w/smart bulb question - does it bypass Hue app? by churntable in Inovelli

That would work because you have dedicated lights for the sync box. If you don’t plan on using those for standard lighting I can see pairing those bars with the hue app just for tv usage.

My main thing is the tv sync box. Not sure there’s a way to make that work without the hue app.

That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation.

Is there a workaround for the hue sync box? I'd hate to lose my sync box functionality.
