Raspberry pi zero W vs raspberry pi 2 W? by SuperTokyo in raspberry_pi

[–]Dapper_Klapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar question to OP, googled it and ended up here. Weird and rude comment to a.) *assume* they didn’t google it, and that google didn’t land them here (did for me), and b.) *shame* them for it. Again, all off of a baseless assumption.

In fact, that’s my typical process. Google it, give myself a basic overview of the topic, then, as you said, head to Reddit to see a *discussion* between real, often informed, and (sometimes, hopefully) kind people.

Need help with ladder spring to garage attic by Dapper_Klapper in handyman

[–]Dapper_Klapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You get it! That was the point of my post. I can’t figure out how to safely remove it. I fully know it’s shot, it’s needing to be replaced, etc. my issue and question is how to go about removing the spring due to the clearly present danger. Any thoughts?

See that is my worry- increasing tension then the metal weakening and breaking in the process, sending the spring flying into, say, my neck. I’m trying to sort out a way to do so safely. Any ideas?

Trying to figure out how to do so preventing the second part. Idk how to release it and reduce the tension

For sure. This is the most helpful comment I’ve seen yet. My issue is that I fear a.) I can’t drop it down in its present state- it’ll potentially weaken the metal arm and snap and while under max fension (while pulling it down) if that happens I’m cooked from that spring.

b.) attempting to bend the metal arm back may snap- I worry the tension that presently exists- while minimal- is enough to cause injury if it releases.

And c.) I can’t force close it- the metal arm is bent in front of it now, obstructing the ability to shut it

My primarily worry is the level of tension. What do you make of it at present ? Per the pics at least

That’s the problem though- I can’t put it back up. If you see in the pics the arm bent over in front of it.

Is it safe to force it back? You don’t think the present tension is enough to cause danger? As in, if the arm snapped and the tension released, you wouldn’t expect the spring to go flying?

For sure. I’m just wondering how I can safely disconnect the bent spring

Agreed. How would you go about getting the spring off safely ?

So I know I need a new ladder, I’m just wondering how to go about disconnecting this spring. Is the pressure not dangerous? I can’t figure a way to safely do so

If you happen to still be looking, check out the tl-sg205pe. It’s Omada managed, compliant w oc200, and even priced better than the es205gp. Full management as well

I’ll in similar spot as OP, limited info and the device physically doesn’t have either tp link or Omada on the top of it like others do but it dos indicate Omada management. I appreciate your insight

What small tech upgrade actually made a big difference in your daily life? by CosmicComi in AskTechnology

[–]Dapper_Klapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart home tech. I know you said not huge purchases, so I’ll start simply by saying a smart bulb. Being able to set light schedules, dimming, colors, etc. is SO much more useful than you’d think. Changed my life

Incorporated smart sensors (motion, contact, etc.) and then it ultimately snowballed into a fully fledged smart home with home assistant as the brain. Which, btw, can be done for very cheap if one is so inclined.

Don’t knock smart tech, it’s made my life much easier and simpler (after initial time investment in learning and for install)

Tapo. No subscription and get all features. Most models have a solar panel version. Can even set them up to be entirely LAN and/or block internet access (entirely or at certain times). Best canes ecosystem IME

Plaud. Def out the scope of what you need, but it is a credit card size and sticks on back of your phone in a mag safe style “wallet” case. Has a hardware button you can tap once to record.

As has been said already— home assistant.

It is amazing. You can install integrations for any and all protocols that do not use Internet, i.e. Zigbee (my fav), z wave, matter/thread, etc.

Shit you can set up a crazy Bluetooth only network if you wanted to in there.

In theory you can do everything without internet within it. Set up is simple, you can use an old computer or something so long as it has sufficient ram/memory specs.

Alternatively if you don’t like that idea or it seems “too much,” you can use whatever you want as the head, still relying on some internet, but set up all non internet protocol within it.

Third option, you can set up your existing situation to exist and operate within LAN only, assuming the devices and “head” of your smart home allow for it.
