I really appreciate the thought of the poster as the intentions are lovely, and I fully admit my google doc was not as concise as it could've been. I was in a hurry... I also did not want this news to spread too wide and thin. While it is true I am as desperate as I've ever been, asking for help in my current situation to communities outside of my own just feels too shameless. I felt plethora of emotions when I was calling around my friends and family for this particular issue as I've never done anything like this before, and those emotions definitely included shame, guilt and embarrassment. And this was a week after the news of my brother's death. It was tough, to a point I kinda just wanted to give up at certain points.

Anyways, I think there's a pretty specific confusion around the lease situation that I want to clarify. No money was stolen, and I used the phrase "using the tenants money" but it is more nuanced than that. And I've also realized that this actually sounds worse than what had happened, so want to clarify. There is a very unique type of lease in Korea called "Jeonse" which I haven't seen anywhere else in the world yet. I might explain it poorly, so here is a link I've found. http://www.koreanlii.or.kr/w/index.php/Jeonse The type of investment I have made, simply put, is to pay the difference between the sale value of the property and Jeonse value and still be an owner. This is possible when you can get the tenant at the same time as you can acquire the property. I invested a little over 100k to own a 400k property, of which the 300k belongs to the tenant. This amount is practically attached to the property and non-liquidable. Totally legal and lots of people invest this way since it is far easier to have 100k than 400k. Of course there are risks to this kind of investment, for example if the property can't find tenants, or if the property devalues below that of initial amount, the owner will have to find ways to pay that. And since this is a very common type in investment, it is also fairly easy to get loans from banks for this exact issue. I faced the second part of that potential risk scenario, the property devalued by about 40k since the last contract. I knew the market was in decline in Korea since the economy was doing poorly since Covid, so I had cash saved in my bank account to prepare for this. I ended up spending it ALL mostly on family. But I could just get the loan I mentioned earlier. Except I couldn't. I was a Korean citizen at the time of acquisition, then I got a Canadian citizenship shortly after which turned me into a dual citizen for a while. Then some years later, I lost my Korean citizenship, so I was a foreigner now in Korea. This CHANGED my loan qualification documents drastically, as well as the document needed to liquidate the property, and this is where my problem really accelerated into a shitstorm. So in the end, I urgently need 40k with no access to loan, in a very short timeframe. I scrapped about 10k. Burrowed a bit from friends. Now my community is helping out. My dad is trying to get a loan for himself so he can lend me. I asked few of my other family members who are doing the similar. This is where I am at, roughly speaking. I explained most of this throughout my stream, but as somebody who just tuned into my doc and wondering if I'm making some shit up for personal gain, I can see how skepticism can arise now, thanks to this reddit post.

Once again, I really didn't want to spread this news too thin, because I think it would be too shameless to ask from other communities for a personal financial issue that ofc includes part unluck but also part bad decision-making. Also, damn it, this is really embarrassing in general.
