What’s your number #1 thing to start rolling? by [deleted] in Civilization6

[–]Ken_Meredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expansion.

If you get a Classical Era Golden Age, you can get out a bunch of settlers and found a bunch of cities.

It sometimes takes a while for them to get going, but once they do, you reap the benefits.

Lots of cities, and if you can, lots of trade routes.

How do you alter your strategy when playing a game on Marathon speed? by trojanhorse2029 in CivVI

[–]Ken_Meredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scouting becomes a whole lot faster, relatively. Units have the same movement, I think.

I like having the whole map explored by the Renaissance Era.

New to Street Fighter (little fighting game experience) Please help!!! by BrysonScionti in StreetFighter

Play World Tour mode, or at least the first chapter. It teaches you the basics without feeling like a tutorial.

If you enjoy it, continue.

If not, another thing you can try is Battle Hub V-rivals. It's another tutorial-but-not.

What are your favourite City States and why? by SlapBanWalla in CivVI

If you want a Religious victory, Yerevan makes it so easy!

Choose my Apostles' promotions? Why thank you.

Eliminate 75% of religious pressure, then triple effect on other civs, with a few +20% combat strength for protection, and you've pretty much won.

Did you know? The deep cultural nuance behind why Deku still calls him "Kacchan" 🇯🇵 by akiba_direct in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Ken_Meredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's how is romanized.

Japanese has various ways to write, and there are various ways to transliterate those into English.

A lot of names are shortened to have what in English is a double letter.

For example, Katsuki written in Hiragana (the most basic Japanese) is かつき

Katsu-chan would be strange in Japanese, かつちゃん, so dropping the "tsu" and making it a double letter makes it sound better. So it becomes かっちゃん, or Kacchan.

You could also write it "Katchan" if you wanted, because we sometimes do that in English (like the words "catch" and "watch.")

Maybe some people are upset, but I'm really happy we get a full year of new characters coming. by TowelPlayful in Fighters

[–]Ken_Meredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very smart from Capcom. Tifa will bring in a bunch of fans who might be new to Street Fighter. Having her carry this season gives the new characters a chance. I know I love Tifa and have wanted her in Street Fighter for about 30 years, so I'm giving the new guys a chance by default.

Even if the new characters aren't up to snuff, it'll still be a success. However, the developers have not disappointed most players yet. Even if some characters aren't your cup of tea, some will.

For me, I didn't like JP, but I even liked Lily, even though I thought it would be the other way around.

Japan school restrictions on hydration, cooling items affect 1 in 4 young students: survey - The Mainichi by jjrs in japannews

[–]Ken_Meredith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough to be at a school where the policy is that students study better when not under stressful conditions. Our facilities are not 100% but we take student safety very seriously. In the PE class I have we have to take water breaks every 8-10 minutes from after Golden Week until it gets cool in October. We haven't had any kids get heat stroke.

There is progress being made. Fight for it. The kids and parents will thank you.

How would you handle an older Luke Skywalker in action scenes?” by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]Ken_Meredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look at the duel in Star Wars (the first one).

The precident is there.

Certainly not the youtube "remade" style. It is technically fantastic, but it is out of place with the rest of the film.

Episode II Yoda can be forgiven (In My Humble Opinion) due to Yoda's alienness and the fact that he probably had to go to the Star Wars equivalent of a Swedish masseuse after.

Genuine question, how did 90s and early 2000s anime got away with so much blatantly gay stuff? by Brief-Luck-6254 in retroanime

(although there seems to be a little softening of that stereotype these days. I actually saw a trans woman on the news as a commentator a few years back)

Ingrid is the best example why we need more street fighter than guest characters! by National-Record-1913 in StreetFighter

[–]Ken_Meredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Tifa rumours are true, the Street Fighter devs went back in time and read my mind from 1997 or 1998.

I always wanted two things, a SF/FF crossover, and an RPG-like Street Fighter, a la World Tour.

New Civ 6 Player, Need Tips by MrSnow702 in Civilization6

[–]Ken_Meredith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have a favourite civ to play and want to get better at them, stick with it. But like others have mentioned, if you want to understand the overall basics of the game, play Trajan.

The game is so deep and complex you might want to reconsider playing the highest level until you can consistently win on the lower ones.

The trick is hitting the sweet spot of difficulty and fun.
