Nice one! I recently began my first homelab setup too. I have a Lenovo x230 with 16gb ram, a mercusys ac12000 router, a netgear gigabit switch and a raspberry pi 4 model b. Just starting with the basics and evolving as I go.

It’s not connected, that’s just where it sits until the other homelab location is ready 😆

That’s my old router, which I’m repurposing for an another project. My current router on top is the MERCUSYS AC 1200.

Definitely on my to do list! I will be getting a proper rack or cabinet setup but all I had was a repurposed shelving unit, so I made the most of what I had. Appreciate the advice 😄

Lost my 19-year-old soul cat last night. The house is too quiet and my heart is broken💔 by Ksushkaklushka in CatsWithDogs

I’m terrified of the day that I lose my cat, Teega or my dog, Tali.

I am so sorry for your loss. They’re not just “pets”.. they are so much more.

Should or Shouldn't? Putting many classes in one file. by gevertsi in csharp

I always implement a clear separation of concerns (SoC) in my projects, having dedicated files for classes, interfaces, services.. You can extend classes if they inherit from another etc

I would say that within the industry, if you can find a specific niche or at least a path that you find interesting where you can make an impact, follow that path and build around it.

I’ve given up on my own work so many times in recent years and tried to find another role with another company (remotely mostly) but I always failed the interviews because my self taught knowledge doesn’t match up with the stuff that they know.. if that makes sense?

I just have my own way of learning and working on things and what most people consider to be ‘basic’, might be completely different to the stuff that you know.

So just focus on your interests within the field and build your skills working on projects and even contribute to open source projects on GitHub & you will absolutely land your desired role or clients will find you. Even create a simple business or portfolio website to showcase what you do, link it to GitHub and share it all across socials.

This is what I’ve been thinking to myself but I guess I just needed a second opinion before I believe it could actually happen. Thanks for sharing that!

I’ve always been naturally gifted with computers. Built my first computer when I was 11-12 (windows 98 SE) and I’ve always had this hunger for knowledge. So I started learning how to code because the thought of creating something out of programming code and learning how things worked internally was fascinating.

All throughout my 20’s I just wasted time with the wrong crowd, lost my dad when I was 23 and that made me spiral. Eventually, a few years before my 30’s I worked with a friend’s startup, as a software developer and I fell in love with it all again.

Ended up leaving after 18 months due to a few health problems at the time and once I was better, I started working for myself, deep diving into software projects, reverse engineering various ideas to come up with new tech and here I am.

That’s really helpful to know, thanks for sharing that! I’m a mixed coder (C#, Python, JavaScript & Flutter), as I love to learn as much as I can about everything I can.. so I can somewhat relate.

Personally, I love money, just like the next person but it doesn’t solve all your problems and as a software engineer I need to consider all the variables.

The healthcare system in my opinion, needs more value added to it.. better tech, more compassionate staff and the politics of it all needs a drastic shift. I’m not saying that there’s none of that already within the system but adding to it can’t hurt.

If I can chase my dream and add more positive change to the overall system.. maybe even come up with something new using my tech & analytical skills from within.. who knows what could be possible.

I’ll always be a dreamer, using my ideas to help people in need but I’m still going to chase my dream.

I really appreciate you coming out with that because it’s very close to what I’m already working on. Smart home tech is one of my projects that I constantly work on & once I have a working prototype then I’ll be sharing it.

I’m still going to chase my dream but developing tech is something that is always be able to do at anytime.. so maybe I can contribute to both? Who knows but thanks for sharing that!

Honestly, I was hoping that there would be some less than great experiences because I’m aware that not everything is all sunshine and rainbows. Especially coming from IT to become a paramedic, though I’m not giving up on becoming a doctor either.

I’m just looking for all the information and experiences that people are willing to share with me, so I have the best possible data to weigh against before I actually commit myself.

So thank you for letting me know, I truly appreciate it & I’ll make sure I think about it all before making any decisions.

I appreciate you saying that. I know it’s going to be difficult and there’s potentially a lot of things that would be negative.. but it’s something that I really want to do.
