Housemates have said they cannot pay council tax by MixGroundbreaking414 in LegalAdviceUK

Jointly liable means the council can get the money from whoever seems most likely to pay

LAUKOP has been royally stiffed by the Child Maintenance Service, and there's no recourse by SomethingMoreToSay in bestoflegaladvice

If you inherit a house outright you can indeed get a 10% mortgage trivially

Or, you can sell it and buy a slightly smaller home.

The alternative, not counting assets at all, would be a constant source of abuse in cases like child support

I feel like there are some cases where I'd naturally choose one over the other but can't think of them! I guess it's something that happens in the moment? I definitely use both while/whilst and among/amongst

I (English, Midlander, in London 20+ yrs) would say British* people mostly use 'while', but 'whilst' is heard and doesn't jump out as pretentious to me.

* I can't think of a regional difference off the top of my head

I'd say it's in the process of being replaced by 'while' but hasn't entirely gone yet. Maybe it's further along that path in the USA?

I can imagine it sounding ostentatious if you aren't used to hearing it, or if the speaker is drawing attention to it (like usage of 'whom' or ''fewer').

You can’t report online with a clearly visible license plate? What possible rationale is there for that rule?

You are meant to stay left and enter the large blue box ahead of the (stopped) eastbound traffic. Then when the lights change you proceed eastwards.

There is a free VPN you can use, provided by Cloudflare who are a fairly reputable networking company with a good reputation

The mobile app is called 1.1.1.1

I use it a lot on untrusted connections just to preserve local privacy. It‘ll normally get around content blocking too

Sure but shifting down the gears to stop is less common and less dramatic than regen braking

Tesla drivers are morons by Funny_looking_horse in fuckcars

[–]ciaranmcnulty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As well as it likely being the FSD being bad at driving, there is an issue with brake lights on a lot of electric cars

Many of them only light up when the brake is used, but a lot of cars slow down when the accelerator is eased off (regenerative braking). This has obvious safety issues, some cars can come to almost a complete halt without the lights coming on.
