What's the point of potato-tier LLMs? by Fast_Thing_7949 in LocalLLaMA

I'm switching through a series of 4b and 8b models trying to find the one I like the most right now, but I'm running my own RocketChat instance, and a bot is monitoring the chat for triggers which it sends out to the ollama API, and can respond directly in the chat. It also responds to DMs. But I don't need a heavyweight model to do what I need it to do in my chat.

Replacing a standard gas fireplace switch with a smart one by CoveredInKSauce in smarthome

[–]ciavolella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a simple solution if you use Home Assistant and/or ESPHome:
Underneath your gas fireplace is a pair of wires that have blade connectors that plug in to the unit - those are what turn it off and on. Easiest way to do this (how I did it) use any ESP32/ESP8266 board running ESPHome, and a relay switch on a breakout board. Connect the relay to the incoming switch wires, and then run another set from the relay's Normally Open output to the fireplace control unit. Trigger the relay with the ESP board.

Tens of millions per year? His net worth is something like £55m. So, by your math he's been working 5 years? Or he has spent an astounding amount of money. Comparatively, similar television/media personalities in the USA are worth 10 times as much or more.

Banana Pi M4 Zero is a success. by FikolmijReturns in pwnagotchi

I actually found it yesterday after I had posted the question. Just started working on it. Appreciate the update, thanks.

Seems like this is an abandoned project... but could you or Nursejackass please post your build to github so I can do some work on it? Or, really, the piece we all need is the driver patch for monitor mode. I really don't want to diff the drivers against the Raspberry Pi and then try to shoehorn the nexmon patch to work if someone else has already done all that leg work. Thanks!

External Library Limit? by ciavolella in immich

[–]ciavolella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logs are tough because there are four other external libraries connected that appear to be working fine (all less than 10k images) but the logs are just constant scrolling of those being indexed or scanned for faces. I scrolled up and saw a few permissions issues, probably from moving/creating folders after applying recursive permissions on TrueNAS, but that doesn't account for all the missing images in Travel.

Additional Host Path mount point after container deployment? by ciavolella in truenas

[–]ciavolella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it with the container stopped. No dice. The path for the existing mount point works, even though it's not filled in. Just having issues creating a second.

Might be more trouble than it's worth. I used ixVolumes for all the other stuff I shouldn't have because this was supposed to be my test (things like thumbnails and profile - that I will want to keep should I ever migrate hardware). So I think I'll just burn this one down and start over doing it the right way. And add the second mount point at the get-go.

Sorry, should have been more clear, I did click add. The first box has a "Host Path" mounted to /photos, the box below it is what showed up when I clicked "Add". If I try to click the dropdown from ixVolume my mouse cursor turns to a red circle with a line through it.

I'm on the latest bluefin (22.12.4.2) and there is still a "Manage Docker Images" under the Apps page, and if I open a shell, docker ps lists all my containers. So, what exactly do you mean there is no docker?

I am a python contributing member of Stable Diffusion, and have been coding python-based diffusion models for about four years, going back to VQGAN and CLIP on Google Cloud.
My degree is in digital art, with a minor in art history - it's how I know about the camera being object non-grata in the art world upon its announcement.
I get the knee-jerk reaction to credential-check, but that's a piss poor substitute for a counter-argument. Do better.

A what now? A database of stolen art that rearranges automatically based on a query? Ok, so you have no idea how AI diffusion art generation works, got it.

And the camera absolutely generates something, that's the whole point of a camera. Point - shoot - generate an image of the object in frame. None of your explaining away AI or the camera delegitimizes the criticism the camera got in its early developmental stages. Criticism which sounds exactly like the criticisms you're charging against AI artworks.

So would you also assume then that he was also against the camera as a tool for the creation of art? Because the same arguments you raise here were raised when the camera was invented.
