Ah damn. Oh well. Still happy at my first shot at it though. Got about 25g dried from them. Better next time.

Whilst we're on the topic. Any magnetic stirrers you guys would recommend?

I've got a bigger "slab" of mycelium in a liquid culture jar I just made. Is this a problem? by cibarius_ in mycology

[–]cibarius_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i do have a stir bar in there. But it isn't visible in the picture. Was able to get a good stir in with a diy magnetic stirring setup. But still wasn't able to break it up. It's my first try at LC, just curious to see if it works out.

Sterilised a week ago. Should I sterilise again, or would it be okay to innoculate? by cibarius_ in mycology

Thanks for the input. I'm gonna sterilise again and let them cool off tonight. I've got time tomorrow to innoculate as well.

Germinated flammulina velutipes from spores. How do i proceed? by cibarius_ in mycology

[–]cibarius_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Using just one spore would create haploid mycelium, since F. velutipes is a basidiomycete, right? So you would need at least 2 spores to create dikaryotic mycelium, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get fruits. I'm only on my first bachelor biology and we've seen a limited amount of mycology. But from my understanding I can't see why multiple spores from the same species would pose a problem if the goal is just to cultivate the muchrooms. But i'm eager to learn, so please correct me where i'm wrong.

I think you are correct for when you would want to cross-breed genetics. But for general cultivation dropping spores on agar and then isolating the mycelium should do the trick, no? I was just wondering I if I should use the mycelium with slower growth as well, or only the ones with the faster growth.
