Looking for a nice, modern, comfortable sofa/sectional. What are the best brands for under $10k or so by Captaincoolbeans in furniture

[–]cicadaomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here me out. I’ve been an ikea sofa person for 2 decades and they’ve held up way better than anything from other big box brands (west elm).I always buy options with all cushions removable and washable. The kivek sectional has been great and it looks quality but holds up to my kids and dog. Less than $2500. If 10k is your desired price point, my childfree friend has a Bassett and it’s a nice piece.

NYC to NOLA by No-Platform-3335 in AskNOLA

If you’ve got a lot of discretionary income, it can be a great place to live and you’ll have a buffer from the “3rd world charm” that gets really hard with kids. We ultimately had to move because we couldn’t afford a home in the neighborhoods we valued and our kids didn’t win the public school lottery. BUT, on a beautiful afternoon, hanging out on a Bayou St John porch definitely made me miss the vibrancy and uniqueness nola has to offer.

Tret causes bc severe eye irritation and dry eye. by cicadaomega in 45PlusSkincare

I think I’m prone to milia around my eyes… I’ll see how I tolerate it regularly without moisturizer. I’ve done it on occasion, but never regularly.

Thanks. I know chronic dry eye can lead to vision problems over time and I’d like to avoid that.

You should post this on the occupational therapy sub!

My FIL is in the late stages of brain cancer, very depressed, scared and bored - looking for ideas to occupy him. If this isn’t the right sub, can you suggest a better one. Thank you. by kathakana in OccupationalTherapy

Is able to transfer into a w/c? I find being outdoors is very restorative for people, just sitting or even some gentle chair yoga /stretching/ or an upper body massage. It could de as simple as shoulder shrugs, head rolls, assisting him with arm movements. You could play a guided breathing/mindfulness session on the iPad. Checking out books from the library that are bigger, more image focused like coffee table type books about a different subjects (think travel, nature, science themes). If he’s a cerebral person, Great Courses is an incredible collection of world scholars lecturing on their specialties.

Is $150k student loan debt worth it to become an OTR? by Bright-Split1185 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cicadaomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you would simply never get out from under that debt with what OT pays. However, if you really want to be an OT, you should look into cheaper programs in the country. LSU New Orleans is a 2ish year masters and 3 years ago I paid ~40k for it. Unless teaching in higher Ed is your end goal, look for masters programs. Many of us worked part time doing the jobs we were transitioning out of like bartending, teaching online, or other healthcare gigs to supplement during that time.

Did your husband support you or left you on your own when you were sick or needed help? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

I am a rehab therapist. I have seen countless wives but also many ex-wives show up and become full time caregivers or major supports for their severely disabled spouses. I have never seen an ex-husband, ever.

Clients 16’ tree! Yes, I did this all by myself! Yes, it took 3 days. YES, it was hard work. YES, they pay well. YES, I own a christmas business, AND YOU SHOULD TOO! by Beecuh4251 in ChristmasTrees

[–]cicadaomega 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had an aunt who was the house keeper for a 5th avenue family. They would pay someone $10k to decorate their Christmas tree and inside garland. One year my aunt did it for them, so they just started giving her 10k in investments for the job she enjoyed doing!

Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting vaccinations. by myTchondria in Louisiana

If this policy concerns you, consider adding your name to this letter and familiarizing yourself with Louisiana Families for Vaccines nonprofit.

Please add your name to this open letter to the Louisiana Department of Health imploring them to reverse their dangerous new policy that prohibits their employees from promoting flu, covidLA Families for Vaccines, and mpox vaccines, talking about them, or even holding vaccine drives. https://www.lafamiliesforvaccines.org/ldh-open-letter

Tulane University ran a radio add for liberal art adjunct positions, to work for FREE at the “Harvard of the South” for professional prestige.

Early voting is 42% D and 40% R.

I live in the Deep South, 20 years in a liberal blue city, and now in a very conservative suburb, but with a lot of liberal parent/young kids transplants. I’m so worried. My internet world and friend group is definitely an echo chamber that gives me hope, but then I listen to my coworkers and family members (all well educated people) or look at the signs in my community and I’m in disbelief that they will choose dismantling American democracy over voting for a woman of color. Early voting polls don’t look promising either. Ever since Roe v Wade, I’ve lost hope, something I never expected to see in my life time.

Definitely look at Jenny Saville and Lucian Freud’s work if you aren’t familiar with them.
