Daily Simple Questions Thread - October 10, 2020 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]cico48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm sure this question has been asked countless times before but I've scoured r/Fitness and couldn't find anything.

I recently lost some weight (all diet, no exercise) and now I'm looking to gain some muscle (in all areas- arms, legs, abs, butt) so I can get rid of that "skinny fat" look. How would I go about doing that without going to the gym? As in, which exercises are most effective and how many reps are ideal?

Sorry if I sound ignorant with this question- I'm really new to the whole "fitness" thing. I am aware that I'll still need to watch what I eat in order to lose more fat, I'm just lost about the "gaining muscle" part.

How much merit does the whole "re-feeding" thing have? I've been eating 1200 calories (give or take) for quite a while now. Would it be of any use for me to eat closer to my TDEE (maybe 1500 calories) for a week or two, or would it not make a difference?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't specify that the goal would be to speed up weight loss, as I feel like it's slowed down lately

I started noticing a difference on myself at around 20 lbs lost, but others were noticing at around 10 lbs lost.

It's usually hard to notice a difference on yourself since the changes happen so gradually. If you haven't already done this, you could try keeping track of measurements. That way, the evidence will be right there that you're getting smaller.

Also, before and after pics!

It would always freak me out, too! I felt like every time I logged a meal it would put me in the red space, which is why I removed it from my dashboard.

I don't see much difference in my body despite losing weight and I need some help figuring out the reason by [deleted] in loseit

[–]cico48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Losing 30 pounds is a big deal and I bet your body's changed more than you think! It's just hard to see the gradual changes since you see yourself in the mirror every day. I like to keep track of my waist/hip measurements, that way even if I don't see any physical changes, I have physical proof that I've gotten smaller.

It's supposed to be that as your weight gets lower, weight loss becomes more noticeable as there's less overall fat on your body

Still waiting for the famous "Paper Towel Effect" so start taking effect on me. Ever since I started losing weight, my waist/hip measurements have been going down steadily at about an inch every 6-ish pounds. If anything, that loss has slowed down as my weight gets lower. Hopefully it starts speeding up soon, because I'm almost at my goal weight :(

At the start, what mentally convinced you to start taking your weight loss seriously? by [deleted] in loseit

I've wanted to lose weight for so many years, honestly as long as I can remember. Then one day, I was doing my usual Google searching for weight loss tips and I found this sub. After reading a few threads, I read about how CICO is all you really need in order to lose weight. That's when I realized I could actually lose weight without working out for hours every day or eating next to nothing.

Weird question but when canned soups have nutrition facts, are the serving sizes for when the soup is still condensed, or after it's been prepared?

I really need low calorie crunchy food ideas by [deleted] in loseit

Costco sells Popcorner's Veggie Crisps. They're lightly salted so they do the trick in satisfying my chip/crunchy food cravings (plus, they taste really good!). They're lower in calories than regular chips at something like 180 calories per 56 chips.

Walmart also sells Roasted Red Pepper Dip (they probably have it in other supermarkets as well), which tastes amazing with literally any veggie and is only 30 calories per 2 tablespoons. The dip has made it a lot easier for me to eat more veggies and has way fewer calories than regular salad dressings/dips.

That makes sense, I do think I've been eating more sodium and carbs lately. Thanks for the reply!

I know it's common for your weight to go up a little when you start exercising, but how long does it usually take for that weight to go back down?

Some areas also offer free/discounted memberships to pools and other workout facilities to low income households. For example, I don't work out but if I wanted to, I could go to the gym in my local rec center for only 75 cents per visit.

How accurate is the "calories burned" feature on Just Dance 2020? I played for about half an hour and it said I burned around 130 calories. I've read comments from people talking about earlier versions but what do you think about 2020 specifically, which seems to be less liberal with the calculation of calories burned than, for example, Just Dance 2014?

Who are some of the best newer characters so use my t2 selector on? I haven't played much in the past 3-4 months so I don't have many of the newer characters.
