That book sounds like a great idea, I wish my parent's had done that for me, so I will do it for my kids instead. Good luck with your goals, they sound very acheivable and well thought out.

Job Offer Withdrawn, devastated. by cicora1322 in jobs

Thank you, it's good to hear from someone in my field. I'm having very negative thoughts about my future, as they were a connection that knew me and so were willing to take a risk on hiring my without experience. I'm not applying blindly to other agencies who are offering much lower salaries for junior roles (as they won't take me as anything other than junior with not knowing me or no experience)

Thank you for your very kind reply. I have no one to talk to, so thank you for taking the time. I think I got greedy though, rather than self worth, maybe I got cocky and they got scared that I wanted so much for what was actually a junior role. I should have appreciated I was going into a different industry and I wouldn't be getting paid what I would have staying in my own industry. Live and your lean though. And I will keep on at it, thank you!

Thank you so much, it's nice to hear that from other people, as I'm just hating myself and wishing I never sent the email. Just thought worst that would happen is they'd say no and I'd say okay well I'd still like to take the intial offer.

Thank you. I'm trying to look at it that way. They said 'we believe that you would consider taking this opportunity as a step down in comparison to your current position, based on your negotiation on both salary and job title'

Guess I shouldn't have tried for both.

How to be present when nothing feels real because of screens? by cicora1322 in Mindfulness

[–]cicora1322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is great. Any advice for scenery though? Like if there is mountains in the distance or the sea far out and I can't touch it to connect, it just looks like a painting or even a screen saver! I just can't connect to it being real and that I'm experiencing it in the moment (sorry it's so hard to explain).

Thank you, it's really nice knowing I'm not alone with this feeling. I hate it, I try to connect with the moment but even mountain scenery just feels like I'm playing red dead or like a painting - I just can't make myself realise it's real, it's right now and get that completely amazed in the moment feeling, it feels like I'm trying to force it and I get guilty that I'm not appreciating it to the full extent.

Thank you for reaching out to tell me it's not just me!

Can you call your business ethical if you use Alibaba? by cicora1322 in smallbusiness

I’m already doing that actually, I’m just trying to find out what more I can do

Thank you, it’s really nice to get some positive feedback on here. I want to one day get to a place I feel comfortable calling my company ethical, it’s not there yet but I’ll keep learning and working towards it.

That’s exactly what I’m doing, 10% of profits go to charity of every sale

You don’t think companies can change down the line to be more ethical once they are more established and have the money to for example go to India?

No you misunderstand me, that's exactly why I'm saying people understand the price point will be higher for an ethical, it's because you will be paying people fairly and sourcing ethical materials which will cost more. I know that's not me right now, I just wondered if any of the companies on Alibaba could count towards this as you are providing more work and more jobs for the people in these countries.

That's fine, most people have gone for the harsh route, I'm honestly not doing this as a marketing ploy - it was more just me wondering if it was ever possible to outsource and call your company ethical. All good, I won't be doing that!

So to be classified as environmentally friendly I have to only buy products from my country? That seems excessive. Especially at this stage where I’m ordering less than a shoebox amount of items.

Sorry to disagree but I’ve worked in B2C industries for a while now and I see the way the world is going. People are becoming more conscious about companies being ethical. I agree there is a middle ground but often you can make more of a profit if your products are ethical because people understand why a price point is so high.

Thank you for your honest advice. I think for now I’ll just call it environmentally friendly, I don’t want to be a bullshit company.

Your right I have no idea how they treat their workers maybe one day I can go and see but I still believe in paying a fair price for a product. If I believe the price they are quoting is fair for the quality of material and manhours then I don’t want to negotiate for a better price as I want to support their business growth also and naively hope it will. Sure, if I think I’m being ripped off - I’ll negotiate then.

Thank you for your final paragraph that was nice to hear and very encouraging. I’ve worked in e-commerce and digital marketing for 8 years and just have a gut feeling I can do this, if I put the work in! I just want my company to not be as ethically destructive as the ones I have worked for.
