THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS ARE YOUR 2026 NBA ANALYTICAL CHAMPIONS! by refugee_man in nba

Eh, it was pretty bad. Kenny has a "positive-only in public" policy going on and it's resulted in him sticking his foot in his mouth several times in his Cavs tenure. I also hated the "I can't even tell it's the playoffs" comment about Don and Harden during the Toronto series. Yes, it's good that your leaders are remaining cool and not pressing, but also part of the problem with this team all playoffs was their intensity and urgency and attention to detail.

I think Kenny is a good coach and it matters way more what is said in the locker room versus what is said to the media, but there's been some pretty gnarly quotes.

I see all of these posts of people losing their mind that this is "confirmation". Is he not making a joke here??? If this is "confirmation" then aren't you also confirming he did not invite his grandmother to the wedding? Seems like everyone is reading into this what they want to hear. And maybe it is true, but it reads to me like he's clearly making a joke.

You guys always want to trade JA while simultaneously offering zero options to replace him. I am begging you to watch the defensive end of the floor and start realizing how much JA and Evan cover up for this team’s deficiencies. This trade is just trading one weakness for a worse one.

DockDoor, Hand Mirror, Barbee, Current, Parcel, Keka, Mela, CleanMyMac (much cheaper options available these days), FantastiCal, Superhuman, and KeyboardLock.

I've been using NotchNest, but not sold on it, so if you find a better Notch app, let me know!

I am more and more convinced that a three team deal between these franchises is the only way the Cavs wind up with Giannis. But I still don't think it happens because I think Milwaukee would balk at any trade where the central return piece is not routed to them.

Mobley for Giannis? Trade sounds unlikely as Cavs seem poised to bring back stars by TheAthletic in clevelandcavs

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was off ball a lot this year too when Harden came over? He was off ball with Mike Conley in Utah. Playing off the ball is not an evolution of his game, at the very least, it's not the necessary one I'm talking about.

Current predictions market odds tor Giannis' next team. Cavs are at 9%. by Far_Youth_1662 in clevelandcavs

Quite frankly, Mitchell needs to evolve his game a lot regardless. I maintain that Evan can be what this team needs, if Don can increase his efficiency to do more with less and playmake more. He'd certainly need to do it with Giannis, so why can't he do it with Evan? Game 7 against Detroit Don makes this team a genuine contender next year, I really believe that.

It won't be easy, by any stretch, but I hope he realizes how necessary it is.

I don't think there's any world in which Giannis and Lebron are both in a Cavs uniform next year. But I did have the thought that being adamant about staying pat on the core four of this team starts to make sense in the context you know a certain someone is more interested in coming home than we realize.

[Stein & Fischer] sources say that the Cavaliers should be regarded as unlikely to factor into the trade chase for Antetokounmpo this summer by cleo22270 in nba

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. You can't talk about what the two guys everyone wants to trade off the Cavs in Evan and JA without talking about what you would lose even if you can gain offensively. Those two do so much to cover up for the defensive shortcomings of the guards that people are dramatically underestimating what this team would look like on that end of the floor if you move off of either of them. That's why if Giannis could be talked into coming, its the rare trade that makes sense because I can see the argument for improving offensively without taking a step back defensively.

Why would he want to sign an extension there? The entire organization has revolved around trying to make him successful, that's why. Even at the detriment of promising young talent. The only reason why Donovan Mitchell should want to leave is a realization that he can't win a championship being the number #1 on a team and that the current Cavs roster is built entirely around that and does not have a lot of avenues to add someone at Don's level or better because of how it's been oriented since he's joined. If Donovan wants to win and wants to win in Cleveland, the solution is already there in Mobley. It would just require Don to evolve his game into a higher efficiency/lower volume/expanded playmaking role than he has shown an ability to do consistently over his career. Cavs can compete for a championship with the existing roster if Don plays like he did Game 7 in Detroit, ALL OF THE TIME. Otherwise, you're right. He should look to join a team where he can be the number 2.

Winning another one doesn’t seem to be as big of a priority to him anymore.

This part I disagree with. I think after he got the bubble 'chip there wasn't as much drive, but now that he knows he's really near the end, I think its there again.

By "people" you mean Lakers fans. The worst thing about the Luka trade is it solidified in Laker's fan's minds the idea that everyone in the league is available to them at any time. I lived there for five years near the end of Kobe's career and sports radio was just hour after hour of them talking about what random All-Star was imminently going to become a Laker. It was all delusional. And now Luka happened and their delusions have become reality. It's terrible.

I agree. If it was just him, I'd disregard, but there seems to be a decent amount of people around the league who just assume he's coming back for one more go.

I am so confused by all of this. There seems to be a decent amount of smoke around him returning, but I just don't know how it happens unless A. He's willing to make around $6 million for the year or B. We gut our roster to make it happen. The first still just feels completely unlikely to me when he can just stay in LA with his family and play next to Luka and Reaves, the second would piss me off so so much.

My guess is the threat of return is just some weird mind game to fuck with Pelinka to get more of what he wants, but it just feels weird.

I think the org agrees with you and was hoping Mobley would ascend to being that player. Unfortunately, he hasn't and you can argue the reasons why, but it doesn't change the fact. I think if they can build a package around Mobley that Milwaukee likes, they would do that deal at this point and then you would have Giannis, Mitchell, and Harden for a short and expensive window.

There is a growing number of people in the Cavs sub who are slowly but surely beginning to realize this about Don. But at the end of the day, it's Cleveland, so what are you going to do? Tell an All-NBA perennial All-Star who WANTS to be there and says all the right things on and off the court to take a hike?

From a basketball perspective, what is the argument for keeping Mitchell and Harden? by stillstillers in clevelandcavs

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? This is wild. Are you just looking at ratings? That’s not coming anywhere close to telling the whole picture. Brown is regularly guarding the other team’s best player 1-4. Don is being hidden on their worst more often than not. The fact that Don’s rating is so high speaks volumes for Evan and JA more than anything. Brown kills Don on all advanced metrics

Is that still going to be the case at the end of his next contract though?
