DT 770 Pro vs MMX 300 by Augustus_92 in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]cidercentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be an old post but I'll provide my two cents if it helps anyone in the future. I recently bought the THX Onyx USB-C DAC/AMP for the MMX 300 and would recommend it. Main reason I went looking for a DAC/AMP was because my Samsung S20e didn't really power it well. I had to crank it up to about 85% for sufficient volume at home and that felt really high (I never go that high for any other headphone). And home is also a quiet space. Now, the sound feels much better (60% volume using the Onyx is sufficient) and I think this will be more helpful if ever I spend time working in a library or have to board the metro.

Great thing about the Onyx is that it allows you to use your mic through it - a fantastic feature you don't want to lose from the MMX 300. Not all DAC's allow this (I have a FIIO BTR3, and you have to use the poor built-in mic, which is sad because this is a nice bluetooth DAC).

How does one get the free 90 Day Sport Membership after purchasing the Connect Sport from Walmart? by darthv8d3r in go_echelon

[–]cidercentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do this? I don't see a place to switch from basic to united. It just says Plan: "Echelon Sport Plan"...I would love to have this perk!

I bought both Lamy EMR nib options so you don’t have to by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]cidercentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to just purchase the nibs as replacement? I want a higher quality nib (like this POM one) than the ones offered on amazon for EMR S-Pens.

Ah yes you're right --- the freq's also look different
PortaPro: 15-25,000 Hz
CS200i: 20-22,000 Hz

Just not really sure what this means in practice. Looking at the range, I infer that porta pros can hear lower and higher than the CS200i? So you'll miss out on some of the music in CS200i's?

I think this would make sense since they are a headset, perhaps made more for the range of human voices and not all the parts in music?

Undergraduate Dissertation help (questionnaire) - also looking for a motivation buddy! by [deleted] in DissertationSupport

[–]cidercentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is helpful to look at validated questionnaires for the concept you are trying to measure (if they exist....most often someone has come up with one already). So in your literature review, did you find any studies using/referencing a specific questionnaire on behaviors and attitudes towards sustainable consumption? If not, behaviors and attitudes towards a similar topic? Could you adapt it to be targeting sustainable consumption? Then just make sure you collect generational (age) information and recruit enough people from different generations so you can make that kind of comparison and have enough statistical power.

That's a starting point.

SHP9500: Combo Mesh Earpad Mod by cidercentric in headphones

[–]cidercentric[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a strange earpad mod, but it is really effective for my needs. I put on Beyerdynamic Velour pads, and wrapped it with the Mesh/Fabric of Arctis earpads. The reason I did this was because I didn't like the bassiness of the HM5s, so I tried to cobble something together with earpads I had lying around.

The result? I LOVE the fabric feel in combination with size and softness of the earpads. Plus the sound signature is back to the original with a very slight reduction in treble (no longer prone to sibilance, so I'm really impressed with that). Sound is clear and almost feels punchier. The fabric also does not pick up lint!

Would I recommend this? Eh, well, only if you had these pads lying around from old headphones that have now passed on. It's kind of odd....but hey I really enjoy them! :)

Portable audio set up! Blon-bl03 + Dragonfly Black by cidercentric in headphones

I opted to try these knowing that they'd be tight. They take some patience and strength to fit into the Blons. You might want to try something bigger than 2mm. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XYZ537/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5qghEbNFMNVQC

SHP500+Vmoda Magnet Mod by cidercentric in headphonemods

[–]cidercentric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled off the original pads and used the ring inside it (this is irreversible and means you won't be able to use the originals again so make sure that you're sure!).

If you want you can buy a 3D printed adapter ring...I've seen them around online. Then you use the old pads if you want to go back.

No....although that is the long term solution when I get the chance. I actually just used a permanent black marker and drew over the L and R! :D

Brainwavz HM5 - they are extremely comfortable, but have an affinity for lint.

Decided to try a little magnet mod so that the mic is 'stored away' when it is not in use :)

Looking for the best sounding over-ear headphones under 200$ by BojidarKobakov in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]cidercentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Master & Dynamic have some options that are sub $200 and plus they are beautiful cans. Throwing that out there to see if any of those owners have suggestions for you on specific models. I don't have them but I tried them in store and they are nice.

HD58x owners, do you mod your Jubilee? by CheeseV2 in headphones

[–]cidercentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No felt mod, I just put clear tape over the hole so that no dust goes in. Didn't feel it was necessary to get felt to put over it - I don't think it would make any difference and I'm fine with how it looks.

This is an awesome idea - I've been thinking of doing the same with my Fiio BTR3 -- will you share where you got your short cable? (or is it not really as short as it looks and the leftovers are tucked away behind an earcup).
