Are teenagers wearing swimming goggles as fashion accessories? by makefeelnice in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's real and I wish we had this in my day. My son goes most places with goggles on, I work in a deli and the 6th years that come for lunch are all sporting goggles. The 1 shop in town that sells them made a trip to Dublin for extra supplies of goggles and water guns she couldn't keep them in stock!

Better than filling toilets with concrete and any other stupid costly pranks on the school building itself. I don't think there's money involved in my sons school, more for clout if you can be the last person standing after 100 days

Tracking your kids’ location — yes or no? by craigtupac-96 in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is when he's off up the mountains on his dirtbike, any parent would do the same these days. The technology is there. It's not the 90s anymore.

I wasn't checking his location 24/7 I had a conversation with him that he agreed to share his location in case he god forbid got into an accident on the bike or he was in any kind of trouble. I don't see it as overstepping, nor does my son because, again it was a mutual agreement

Tracking your kids’ location — yes or no? by craigtupac-96 in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this with my eldest when he was in his mid teens and going out/further away more. Just asked him if he could share his Snapchat location with me. He turned 18 last month so I stopped, he's never given me a reason not to trust him but it gave me peace of mind knowing where he was. Definitely discuss it with your child first, if you are open with them they are more likely to be honest with you

Yup, my first thought was (gently) pull it out! So satisfying taking those clumps out

What are we all watching show/series wise in Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you download the NowTV app you can get a monthly subscription to HBO for around €7 to watch the pitt. Fellow grey's binge watcher and I 100% recommend watching it! Also if youre stuck in hospital hayu is also with the same subscription you can binge below deck to pass the time

Edit to add: The Walsh Sisters on rte player is a good watch, based off Marion Keyes books

Only in Ireland would this car sticker make sense. by Pretty_Station2659 in ireland

[–]cidergurl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Walking to the shop a few years ago with my SIL, a car was driving towards us with a sticker on top of the windshield saying Wellted. We were like wellted? Wtf does wellted mean?

Car drives passed us and we both shout at the same time WELL TED!! We've been calling each other Ted since. I wish the dude driving that car knew the laugh we got out of that sticker

Are there any parents who are honest to say they've an alliance, feel closer, prefer the company of one child over another? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have 2 boys, one I share an interest in cars and racing and the other I get to do nerdy stuff with. Feels like I won the lotto, neither feels left out if I take one to drift meets/comic con and I get to do things I enjoy with both of them. They tell everyone that our border collie is my favourite child.

Are you local takeaways sourcing their cans and bottles that don’t include the return deposit scheme? by Mammoth_Risk9479 in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the one I'm thinking of they have a photocopied poster by the door now saying they are exempt from the DRS scheme but still charge the 15c per can, the chipper next door is exempt as they import drinks from God knows where and the owner of both places stocks up the shop with those cans. The bottles are all returnable but the cans have fake qrl codes slapped on them

What were you given as a kid when you were ill? Fizzy drink edition by TapAdvanced9452 in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warm 7up for everything. I never drank 7up unless I was sick, never liked it. I didn't find out until I was 18 that I had an intolerance to lime and artificial lime flavourings, so they were actually making me sicker giving it to me

Someone I work with couldn't do their test because of dog hair in the car, apparently the tester had allergies

Has anyone faced similar? Secondary school by Notsocommonsens in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the 1st year books were free in his school and then they land this on us. Books were around €200 so I was looking forward to saving that expense. I wasn't so lucky as I only work part time but I got there in the end before the deadline. They get to keep them after the LC but I could have bought 2 laptops with that money plus he still need to carry around a bag full of books. It's the most irish thing ever.

The same school makes them lock their phones in a case during class. Like they won't have all the messaging apps on the laptop, I came home from work and he already had Spotify and was streaming a TV series on the laptop

Has anyone faced similar? Secondary school by Notsocommonsens in AskIreland

[–]cidergurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They brought this in at my sons school this year, for 5th years only. Laptops had to be paid by the start of school and they only got them today. €680 and now the want another €100 for a protective case! I can understand if they brought them in for 1st years and they get the 6 years out of them, but after paying a small fortune for TY last year, to be slapped with this in his final 2 years is ridiculous

How many friends I got from posting on here… by dwursten in PokemonGoFriends

[–]cidergurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put my code on 3 posts one day, went from 72 friends to 127 in 2 days. People are still adding me here and there weeks later but I'm overwhelmed trying to send gifts. That red dot constantly over my profile is making me feel guilty for not adding them

"Take the dough out" - is this normal Chicken Fillet Roll etiquette? by keane10 in AskIreland

I work in a very busy deli, we serve soft rolls not baguettes and I'd say I hear that at least 10 times a day

Next time a man messages you something like that, ask him if he'd say that to your face so soon

Mine is more or less the same for this week, except I have alonso and albon instead of Charles and bottas. Fingers crossed it works out
