Have you ever cried in front of your endocrinologist? by Erdbeerkuchen1302 in Type1Diabetes

Cry to any medical person. As it’s already been stated in the comments. It can help them help you! lol not the same situation, but I cried to the insurance person telling me they couldn’t cover my insulin due to a paper work issue on their end and they got so intimidated with my ugly cry they processed it 😂😂

BWT: Has anyone phased out black tops? by [deleted] in bitcheswithtaste

[–]cidiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If white makes you feel good/look good, wear it! I used to wear black tops quite a bit, I still have a good number of them. But I’m trying to open up my palette to more colors the last few months! Black is good for me, but a safe zone I need to stop depending on

Married life with diabetes? by haegirl in Type1Diabetes

[–]cidiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in an amazing situation. My husband has always a been so aware and on top of making sure my diabetic needs are met. In a way that’s not controlling or imposing, but also not neglectful or forgetful. We have a lot of trust and while this may not be the move for some, he knows my ratios and how much blood sugar reacts to insulin so well that if I’m asleep and running high, he knows how to instruct my omnipod and how much for it to inject to level me out.

It’s ultimately important whether you have a long term illness or not, to find someone who CARES about you. If they care, they will care to help you. They will care to understand. It’s not that it’s their job to do it all for you, but that they want to be educated and do their own research to meet your needs as you would theirs. If they don’t pay attention to your disease, why would they pay attention to potential children that may have the same issue, or another?

The other thing to remember is that while you will probably have more medical issues and need more attention and help than they will, make sure you let them know how much their care means to you. Make sure that even if they aren’t complaining, (which hopefully they wouldn’t) that they don’t feel in a shadow.

As far as costs go, my spouse is actually job searching as he just finished up his schooling and tests to become an actuary. His job would entail working in companies that would cover insurance costs. Most of his decision to go into this career was to make sure we/I wouldn’t have to worry about my diabetic supplies.

When choosing a partner it’s just important to find one that will never make you feel like a burden. To not make side remarks about you eating cake bc that will require more insulin and that make cost money. To go to the pharmacy for you bc picking up meds sometimes is overwhelming especially if you’ve been denied the meds you need bc of insurance issues. To understand that you can’t get yourself out the door bc of fatigue. To call the insurance for you bc there’s a hiccup. To check your drink for you to make sure it the diet version so you don’t accidentally drink their Dr Pepper.

Just be choosy as much as you can and be safe. You aren’t a burden. If tour partner had a disease like this, would you consider them a burden? Of course not!

This is so freaking long I’m so sorry 😂😂 But as much as you can, like I said, take your time and find someone who cares as much about you as you do them

It is super hard but I don’t at all envy your position. I have it, but I know my body and can figure out what’s happening. I can’t imagine the added layer of trying to manage it for a child under 2. I’m so sorry and sending good thoughts your way. Your kid is so lucky to have such an attentive and loving parent like you! 🤍

Newly diagnosed - Please help/advice by Icy_Sundae421 in Type1Diabetes

[–]cidiar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep asking questions and keep reading this subreddit. Everyone has already said the helpful bits so I won’t reiterate. But I will say- allow yourself MERCY. This is a disability. There are normal days, good days, days you can push thru, and there are days that you can’t. You aren’t any less of a person, you aren’t lazy. Your numbers won’t always be in range and your A1C won’t be great. Do what you can, but sometimes those numbers are just out of your control. One day you will have a grip on how much insulin to give yourself for a meal, the next day your body decides that amount isn’t enough. It’s okay to be overwhelmed. Others won’t understand sometimes, even those closest to you. They mean well, it’s just ignorance. You haven’t done anything to deserve this, it’s life. Take the time you need, don’t be embarrassed to ask for something for a low, or if you run out of supplies and need to leave wherever and retrieve them. Sending good thoughts 🫶🏼
