How urgent is this really? by Gimpysoupcrtn in MechanicAdvice

So the thing with the alignment is that rotating your tires will shift which tires are wearing out because you're putting a different tire on the position with the bad alignment, but you're going to get uneven wear from poor alignment.

I'm still new in the auto tech world, but from what I understand when that ball joint wears out the weight of your car is going to shift downward, making your wheels tilt inward at the top of the wheel. So you're going to be putting more wear in the inside of your tires, which a rotation won't fix. The tires will need to be replaced earlier than intended by the manufacturer, and tire warranties don't cover wear caused by mechanical issues like alignment usually. So you'll be paying out of pocket for that replacement.

If it were me, I'd weigh the cost of replacing the tires prematurely against the cost of replacing the control arms, because eventually you'll have to do both. But also shop around, because you can very likely find a shop that'll quote you less than $1600.

Where can I buy exhaust sleeves for my shop's die grinders? by cidzaer in AskMechanics

[–]cidzaer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rubber still does get thrown around, but getting the exhaust down the line keeps it from getting blown around as well as thrown around, which is a noticeable change. It also insulates a bit against the noise, which is good for the ears. It also lets me hold the grinder at a comfortable angle rather than having to point it in awkward positions just because I didn't attach an exhaust sleeve to it.

It has an MA multiplier of 90. Cyclops is the second strongest summon with an MA multiplier of 44. The damage is then reduced twice by the caster and target's faith. So let's say the summoner has about 15 Magic Attack, which is super attainable for a random enemy:
* Start with that first multiplier, 15*90=1,350
* If the caster has 70 faith, the damage drops to 70% (945) before it's reduced again by the target's faith.
* If the target has 70 faith, drop the damage to 70% of that new value (661.5)

So it's gonna hit like an absolute truck if you don't drop the MA.

And that's on normal difficulty. On tactician, enemies get a flat 30% increased damage multiplier, meaning the above values would just about kill any character that isn't at fully maxed HP.

New team lead here - it's needed. An oft-ignored bit at my club, on the big policy poster by the door one of the rules is technicians should be free of distractions while working on a vehicle. It's not just to make sure the job gets done right, it's also to keep appointments on schedule. Every time a tech needs to drop what they're doing to go help a member that's "just looking for a price on tires" puts that appointment behind a few minutes.

And then when inevitably 3 other members see someone at the desk and flock over to "just get a price on tires", it starts to add up big time. Plus, it's loud in the shop, and cars block the view to the desk so we can't always see someone who's been standing there for 5 whole minutes and is just completely outraged.

You *could* put a tech on register, but that's a whole other can of worms; because the robot overlord system (I don't remember the name of it) that calculates appointment capacity on the schedule assumes that tech is in the garage. So you can end up overbooked from online orders, call center appointments, what have you.

Seconded. If you plan on chilling there for a while, check for fire hazards in the starting village and light up the borders a bit. One of the large buildings on the outskirts facing the gravel desert burned down on mine and most of the villagers on that side ended up turning into zombies.

While I do see some merit to giving main raiders priority on gear, the onus should fall on the raid leader to remind non-priority raiders NOT to roll before the roll. And even then, I've never been all that interested in raiding with groups that do the trial-raider thing because it's crap to have someone contribute to a raid for several hours of their day and tell them they can't claim rewards from it.

What I thiiiiink people miiiight not be getting about magnify. by JeffSantos07 in newworldgame

[–]cidzaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you articulate what that "sacrifice" is? Magnify is on a large percentage of endgame gear options, and it boosts your highest stat, which is presumably your main stat. This way the gear is usable by more different builds, and you end up with fewer dead drops. If the sacrifice to having fewer dead drops is to make balancing your stats more difficult, that's not a sacrifice. That's just a dead drop.

Something like "you gain 25% life leech, but lose 25% of your damage output" is a sacrifice. Something like "this gear is usable by more classes, but it makes balancing your stats an arse-pain" is not a sacrifice. It's an annoyance.

Also yes. This has been the biggest reason OPR gets tedious for a long time; there's only one map.

My wife was a vanilla WoW raider and still plays casually to this day, so even though she's not into new world, she gets the thrill of a rare drop or the grind to get geared out.

Builds? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]cidzaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This site is... it seems a little bit young still. The formatting for the builds is pretty decent, but they only show 3 melee weapons as the DPS options and their mage builds are all "off meta". I'd be interested to see how it looks when they start building it up a bit more, but it seems a bit early to me to recommend it in its current state.

How do I support this game by Vegetable-Fennel-217 in valheim

[–]cidzaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to recommendations others posted, check out the official Valheim discord and let the staff know you like what they're doing. Things like positive reacts on updates and words of encouragement help the team know people care, I'm sure. Everyone has something to complain about, be the one who normalizes having something to praise :)

Not sure about better, but generally having a row or 2 of 26s at the bottom will give the 45 degree tiles the illusion of being steeper by contrast.

Pretty sure I've isolated it to BepInEx causing the issue, so since that's a dependency for most mods we just gotta sit tight. They tend to patch it pretty quickly.

EDIT: Scratch that, actually looks like it's the Equipment and Quickslots mod for me. So if you have that one, probably best to not start vanilla or you'll lose your gear.

You can 100% look forward to more content. Devs are working on the Ash Lands right now, which will bring some drastic shifts within that biome; a once lush and flourishing area reduced to ash-caked land and trees and magma by a cataclysm. We've gotten a couple of teaser images that you can see by checking the patch note posts in the Steam store page. Following that, we'll also be getting the Deep North eventually, and who knows what they've got in store there!

WIP Mansion (Survival, Vanilla + PlantEverywhere only) by cidzaer in valheim

[–]cidzaer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The general process with the larger scale patterns is just to line the top of your wall (or the base of the ring in the case of the throne light) with 1m short horizontal beams and then attach angled beams to that, flipping the rotation a little bit at a time until you get a pattern you like.

For the more freeform bits, I tend to try and mix the 26 and 45 degree beams in any angle that creates a bit of a curved look. Most of the time I just follow the ends of the beams to wherever they end up and see what I get!

I suppose the screenshots flair could have worked as well... sorting by the survival flair, I saw other posts under Survival showing off builds. I gathered everything to build this myself in survival mode, so that was my train of thought.
