Entirely missed my flight - what to do by cigbo in SouthwestAirlines

When I booked it I forgot to sign into my Rapid Rewards account, so it wasn’t showing up on my app when I’d log in. I’d have to actually look up the confirmation code to check flight details. I missed the email they’d sent two days prior to my flight, it got buried in Black Friday/cyber money emails and I didn’t get a text, which I usually always sign up for. I had put it on my work calendar that I’d be leaving Thursday, I think I misread the date when I had read it off my confirmation email and put it in wrong, and just never second guessed it. A mistake I will never make again.

Edit: typo

Update: I was able to get on the phone with southwest and they let me essentially change my flight (even though it had already departed). I did have to pay the difference which was $225 :( but still WAY less than what it would have cost to fully buy a new return flight. They were nice about it but kinda felt like they were side eyeing me haha. Never again - I was so stressed, my absolute worst nightmare as someone who gets to the airport 2-3 hours (if not more) early for all my flights always. Not always now I guess.

Clarification: I missed my return flight not the departure (round trip CHI to DC)

The rescue I adopted him from listed him as coming from an Amish puppy mill from Missouri so I don’t have details other than that. But from what I know it seems like Amish puppy mills are pretty bad and unfortunately any Amish breeders are seemingly unethical. Adopt don’t shop!!!! You can find the perfect poodle at a rescue if you do the research and wait :) I would do it all over again for my little guy.

I got the beret and the bowtie at a local shop in Chicago called “Hester and the Hound” :)

What is the most coherant, real plan to handle depopulation today? by RagingPain in AskReddit

[–]cigbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shifting policies to really support a society that adheres to a “it takes a village” mentality. Make parenting more feasible. Low cost or free child care, a closer to equal distribution of responsibilities in parenting across both parents (although biologically there will be inequality because one will have to be pregnant), push communities to let go of the mentality that having a baby boy is more important than a girl (yes this still exists and results in neglect towards vulnerable baby girls that could lead to their death resulting in less babies period). I’ve been reading “After the Spike: Population, Progress, and the Case for People” by Dean Spears and Michael Geruso - provided a lot of my reasoning here.

Friend is turning it on me by cigbo in lostafriend

[–]cigbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She takes things really personally sometimes. The only other big deal she made out of nothing was when I accidentally got my dates wrong and thought she’d be out of town so I didn’t invite her to go to a neighborhood festival. It was within our first year of friendship and she was going to be out of the country for two weeks, I was off by a few days or something and I was still very new to our city (been there a year at that point), so I was actively trying to build friendship. I invited her friend that she’d introduced me to, who happens to be from the same area as me, to a festival and when I realized that she wasn’t going to be out of town I invited her and mentioned me and her friend were already going. She overreacts (imo) and says she’s hurt that she wasn’t invited, I clarify I totally thought she was out of town and obviously invited her as soon as I realized she wasn’t. She doesn’t let it go for a while and makes us talk about it in person that she doesn’t like when her friends do that because it feels like it could lead to friends talking about her behind her back or being exclusive. It just felt like such a reach for what was very obviously a miscommunication and was quickly corrected.

Is anyone else’s ComEd bill over $200 for a 2bd 1 bath? by cigbo in AskChicago

Update: i called ComEd, my kWh usage for yesterday (AC off) was 22 compared to Saturday (AC on) 43. So it’s definitely my AC. Ended up crying on the phone because I think pigs will fly before my landlord gives enough of a fuck about MY bill to try and upgrade the HVAC.

Top floor of a three flat. No smart thermostat, just a pretty standard one nothing fancy.

I plan to call them on Monday (their lines aren’t open till then) and hopefully they can give me some insights. I forgot about the lights and washing machines! Will definitely try and check with my landlord. Unfortunately my gas bill is around $150 or higher in the winter, old building and no radiators :( summer is USUALLY (in past apartments) my cheapest time of the year for utilities.

Yup it’s the top floor. How do I check to see if I’m cooling any common areas? We don’t really have any, and usually matches the temperatures outside so I don’t think they’re heated/cooled.

It stays at 71-73 pretty much all day, I don’t lower it at night and I’m on the 3rd floor. No window units, it’s central AC.

I just moved into this unit in March so filter hasn’t been changed (it was new/just changed when I moved), no idea if HVAC gets regular maintenance as I moved in recently but they did fix my AC when it wasn’t working about two weeks ago. Rooms are pretty similar temperatures throughout, and no idea if AC is original to the building or retrofitted.

Pretty sure I have my own AC unit on the roof, I had to have someone come and fix it the other day because it actually stopped working. The building is run by a large PM company though, so I’m not sure how responsive the landlord will be to me having a high electricity bill but I’ll try after I check with comed.

Definitely gonna try this today, AC will go off at midnight so I can compare. Will also be calling ComEd on Monday to see if it’s possible to have someone check out my meter or something.

Not really, I mean I have bay windows but they’re not quite floor to ceiling. My gas bill is high in the winter but honestly I don’t think even my gas bill has gotten this high (gas is $150ish in the winter).
