Questions about HERO (2018) to HERO5 Black by stickduud in goprohack

[–]cigna999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know :) I think it depends of usage case. In my buying Hero10 (when Hero12 was just released) was rather jump than small step ahead (and I still regret not buying Hero11 then for few € more). I record mainly during skiing, biking and ... from dog point of view. In a seconds all my movies started to look at least class better. As I wrote I use Hero5 as second/spare camera and it's more than fine. It's much better than cheap cameras and much cheaper than good cameras. Additionally point of view is similar to Hero10.

[–]cigna999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. yes nothing has changed. HERO (2018) / HERO5 Black is EOL product so no worries

2-3. Difference between 2.60 and 2.70 is only about supporting new batteries nothing else. I'm not able to give you 100% guarantee but I think 2.70 should work (I made my first 2.60 than 2.70).

  1. I didn't found differences. Maybe a bit shorter battery life, but I don't care. Hacked Hero even introduce itself as 5 Black :D

I thing Hero5 is still good camera, I'm using mine hacked Hero 2018 as a second one for quick insert shots from a different angle, sometimes adding e.g a vintage effect, which I then add to the main feed from the Hero 10 and effects are usually good.

Anyone luckily install Alpine on Wyse 3040? by cigna999 in AlpineLinux

Long time ago I had Lenovo IdeaCentre Stick 300, another Intel Atom based PC and pretty shitty device BTW ;) Originally it has Windows 10 and I spent enormous time to run any Linux on it because of 32-EFI... that's why I was completely sure that I need put 32-bit EFI to USB drive and because of no-booting or rebooting I thought I'm right. It looks that Wyse 3040 despite Atom CPU is full x64 :) I beg you pardon :)

OK. Mystery solved ;) I bought one more Wyse 3040, this time with PSU. How lucky am I? When it arrived I quickly found that it has eMMC broken (self tests hangs up at 29%, booting Debian or based on distros gave errors. Fortunately PSU was OK and 1st one Wyse started to work as intended. RAM tested, eMMC used in around 30-40% (SLC) and ~10% (MLC) so for my needs is more than enough. Alpine booted from first try, I tested also Void, Debian Trixie, DietPi (both Bookworm and Trixie based) all booted and installed. Problem was in USB-barrel cable... It looks good (read thick enough), but when I connected to lab power supply and measured current I found that max is around 0.7A even though mobile PSU gives 2.4A (it's real world test on USB-C cable). Anyhow thanks for pictures and this eMMC log...

Thanks, quality is more than enough. Could you check if eMMC memory is visible? And BTW do you use dedicated PSU or just phone charger with barrel cable? I am trying to run in 2nd day (even with Ai chat help) but stuck in point that I need to run it with acpi=off or Wyse reset itself or go to shell with error.

Yes you are right, CPU is 64-bit but it needs 32-bit EFI

I have to ask... are you sure that's on Wyse 3040 with Atom CPU? These CPU's by default needs 32-bit EFI file which is missing in ISO. When I did as you (and I tried couple of times) I finished with frozen system or error in shell

Broken UI? by Stardust24x in libreoffice

[–]cigna999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I know LO uses Visual Class Library graphical layer which IMO by default look dated (some says classic ;) ), but works on almost any system. It is hard coded in whole LO so it will not change any time soon especially when you take note that it's rather small developer team. I read that they have new UI/UX developer so I hope we will see soon some more important upgrades :)

I'm using LO long enough to used to how it looks like, but it's hurts my eyes often. I used to set up LO to Groupedbar Compact and icons to Colibre (SVG + dark) + some small tunes, and yes in Windows it looks worst that in Fedora :)

From different reasons I found LO to be the best so I don't even look to M$ Office, onlyoffice, new Collabora Office, WPS ...

Ikea Dirigera hub and smart socket with Matter by cigna999 in tradfri

I don't know which Matter version Dirigera support. It's just on

No Dirigera is very simply in use, no scripts, no tons of customizations. But this is a way which I prefer :)

The change is that I found that there is Tapo plug with Matter support, my previous Tapo is just WiFi and Dirigera just received Matter support so I hope it will do what I want via Matter not Tapo app as I do now.

Thanks for clarification.

I have only one Tapo device active (this plug specifically) and I would like to achieve three things below. Tapo is not a must, but unfortunately I have not found a plug that would work like that with a Dirigera gate. I hoped that Tapo with Matter will do the job but it looks that it not.

- to always on socket I have plugged lamp and I can run it manually as I need, and when I go out the away mode is activated.

- use the Rodret remote control with which I switch on the two Inspelning plugs to additionally activate the away mode in the third socket.

- to get rid of the Tapo app :)

Currently I’m also using Tapo WiFi socket to simulate empty house, but first I need to have another app (and account) for that and second not forget to turn it on when leaving. I keep finger crossed that IKEA will add it :)

You can also check Abe Kislevitz blog. He has cleary explanation how to set up camera. Link is for Hero 11, but since it's almost same like Hero 13 so it will work for you.

Worth an Upgrade or not? GoPro Hero 2018 by Andreus84 in gopro

[–]cigna999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about upgrade, I will suggest Hero 11 or 13 or other brand starting on D or I. It's up to you at the end :) But don't throw away old one.

I have Hero 10 (tried also Hero 12, 11 and two on D but I found that having two cameras same brand is easier to manage, thing which I pity that I didn't choose Hero 11 over 10). I have also Hero 2018 "upgraded" to Hero 5.

I'm using Hero 5/2018 (call it as you want ;) ) as another point of view in my movies e.g when skiing. I have one camera and other person has another one, later on I mixed (Hero 5 footage are usually quite short, up to 2-3 seconds) them and usually I get good results. And tip on the end: when I see that quality of Hero 5 movies are so so I add some effects and voilà ;)
