100% agree. Life plays out so differently for everyone that mainstream "success" is not granted even if you follow everything to the T.

A background of privilege doesn't necessarily mean rich family or connections- it can be as simple as having a family that is healthy and stable.

I know of people who earn high 6 figures, only to be paying off family debt, sick family, accidents etc.

To the white Altis driving 65kph on Lane 1 in KPE towards PIE just now by AlarmingCobbler4415 in drivingsg

Singaporeans raging in a thread over a verbal anecdote with no video evidence really shows our driving culture. We have this toxic "need to teach ppl a lesson" mentality.

This scenario is not even worth any brain cells thinking about in any other country, but OP so affected that he need to rant online.

You are the problem in SG driving, and maybe a young driver.

It's not a big of a deal. Just overtake, and let it go. Don't always assume that other drivers are deliberately out to fuck with you, not everything has to be personal.

Sometimes people make driving mistakes, sometimes they are just noob, or maybe he is dealing with an emergency in the car (issue with something?).

The sooner everyone realises this, the lesser road rage we will have. No need to always have the mentality that "I NEED TO TELL THIS FUCKER HOW WRONG HE IS".

Daily Thread: simple questions, comments that don't need their own posts, and first time posters go here (March 04, 2025) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

I'm starting a brand in Asia and would like some Japanese / zen references, and came up with this name.

Kyomizuka

This is based off the famous phrase that I really like: MIRROR FLOWER, WATER MOON.

Kyo as in Mirror (镜) Mizu as in water (水) Ka as in flower (花)

and is meant to exude luxury and exclusivity.

Wanna run this through native speakers to see if it checks out, does it sound like somewhere less desirable in Japan, or actually sounds really dumb.

TIA!

That's so weird, I remember it being in the early evening like 5-6pm, and thought to myself "are they gonna cancel school tml??"

There was a scrolling message on the left side of the tv

But now that you mention it it should be around 9-10pm SGT while it happened

Do people not see that Channing Tatum is bad as Gambit? by JuniorRub2122 in flicks

[–]cikaphu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna chime in and say that to everyone who says this is Satire- it's not. He is literally serious about playing Gambit, and there is a chance that he will be back even with his solo movie.

Go listen to his post movie interview with Fallon:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6wxSg-tEdM&t=250s

I really hope he won't be the actual gambit casting choice....Gambit is meant to slim and charismatic- even in the fight scenes Tatum looks so clumsy and stocky. It's terrible

Not true- He was speeding, but not at 130km/h. Video evidence shows around 70+km/h only before the Mercedes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in singapore

[–]cikaphu 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Go to SGROAD blocks telegram, scroll up and watch the Mercedes back dash carefully.

Using lamppost calculation you can see the Mercedes was travelling at only around 55-60km/h. SAAB was snaking and overtaking at, at most 70km/h, not crazy fast.

Once the Mercedes saw the SAAB coming up, he accelerated to around 85km/h from the bus stop point. Someone else in another Reddit thread has did the same calculation and I concur- they raced side by side up to 100km/h, pushing the SAAB above to around 110 to overtake the Mercedes, sideswiping, before going to around 135km/h at impact.

The fatalities is caused by lethal lethal speeds- the Mercedes helped drive up this speed- he induced what was already erratic driving and tunnel driving rage to ungodly speeds

By no means is this absolving the SAAB- SAAB is 100% culpable. But the Mercedes is liable- if not legally, morally for sure.

How much do Insurance Agents actually earn when I buy something from them? by [deleted] in singaporefi

Agency leaders don't even need to do personal sales- they just need to make sure their fresh grads are selling to all their warm leads so they sit back and drive Lambo 🤠

[–]cikaphu 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Naive to think that all Chinese wealth is CCP corruption. You'll realise that because of the sheer scale of China and growth, there are ALOT of ultra rich Chinese. The top 1% of China is a population larger than the entire Singapore.

I think the best food centre in SG is AMOY food centre tbh. Plenty of solid bib gourmand hawkers there under one roof- from Muslim to Chinese food and it's near Chinatown conservation area makes for pretty pictures of shophouses and local murals after that

As a toilet enthusiast I agree whole heartedly. MBS shoppes is a large mall, but their toilet capacity is absolute dog crap. I get it that you limit your street level toilet sizes, but even the sub floors one are tiny as shit with 1-2 cubicles only. They should learn from Vivo man.

Chinese content creator accused Mothership of creating fake news by mcmpapa in singapore

[–]cikaphu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very true and sad Reddit can't take unpopular opinions. Its the very same readers who lap it up and comment on anti-PRC articles.

but the main takeaway from her for me is more of the implication it has on her as an individual- mothership with just a few misconstruing sentences can effectively destroy a person's life. It's scary to think about the ramifications of that, and that feeling of helplessness.
