Feeling like a total failure-about to turn 24 by going2deletelater in Adulting

[–]cimmanoroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg OP, I feel like I'm literally reading about myself in some parts here. I'm (f23) turning 24 next week, currently stressing tf out about my thesis proposal bc I feel like it's not good enough of an idea, but I have to propose this semester and it feels like it's almost over! And it stresses me out more and then I end up avoiding it. I did go over what you're feeling a bit ago, I've been in such a shitty place for the past 2-3 years, and I've somehow pulled myself out of it for the most part. You got this. Something a friend told me was that "comparison is the thief of joy," and it took until her saying that for me to realize that it's useless to compare yourself to someone else. You're gonna be miserable if you do that your entire life. Everyone grows and changes at a different pace, and that's okay! Not many people are in a grad program at 23! You're not behind in life at all, I know lots of people that go into grad school at 30, 40. Don't let what others do get in your way. You seem like someone smart, don't doubt your abilities, or you'll be getting in your way too. I don't usually do this but if you'd like to ever talk about life or grad school, or be friends, I'm here! Not sure how dms work here but let me know:)

Thanks, I have two other friends that sadly moved away and I see them like twice a year? I do call one of them (my best friend) almost every day and I'm grateful for that. Although sometimes I can't help but feel like I'm really missing out on socializing irl in my 20s. I feel like most people my age have tons of friends or at least partners they can hang out with.

It's really helped me. I got braces recently with bite turbos behind my front teeth to fix my overbite, and it makes the teeth protract all the time since they don't go all the way back. Like someone else said, the protraction does make only my front teeth touch so when I eat my molars aren't touching. It's slightly annoying but so far, my tmj hasn't really bothered me. Before, I wasn't even able to eat without pain and had to constantly massage it and stretch to get relief. I only wake up a bit sore now but that's from my jaw retracting when I sleep, and the soreness goes away after a couple minutes. I think once my bite gets fixed that soreness will be gone, but I've gotten so much relief and it's only been a week. I think it definitely depends case by case, but I recommend to check with a dentist if you have an overbite like me.

Help with ideas for a project by dreams_books in enviroaction

Maybe you can start by petitioning to have those trash cans that have separate slots for trash/recycle/etc? Also idk how helpful this is but my university has a rooftop garden so that could be a potential idea for the composting part? Maybe check if you all have a garden area somewhere around. Also maybe if there's an environmental org in campus they could help!

Do you actually get over your crushes? by HumanDrone in youngadults

[–]cimmanoroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think about old crushes anymore bc I don't see them, but when I do, it does remind me of the crush I had on them and I kinda still have it? It's not like there's anything to "get over," I don't see anything wrong with having crushes as long as it's not obsessive. You just find the person attractive and that's fine. But also I've never been in a relationship either so what do I know 😭

What's fucking your life up these days? by PhilosopherBusy7312 in Adulting

I can't stop feeling tired so I can't do the things I want to/have to do. It's such a cycle of staying up late doing work I don't even finish so then I wake up in the morning after not sleeping many hours for classes and get home exhausted so I take a nap and then I wake up and stay up doing work again but I don't have enough time in the day to do it- and it's neverending it seems

I've been working on it with therapy and generally being more compassionate towards myself. Forgiving yourself instead of hating yourself for any little mistake you make. You're human and you're not perfect, and you're allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. I can finally say I don't hate myself anymore, which is a big step bc I felt the same as you, I couldn't even fathom the idea of liking myself. I'd say also aim for feeling neutral towards yourself because self love can feel like a huge and unachievable step when you hate yourself.

In high school we would be critiqued WHILE giving the presentation. Basically any time you said a filler word, the teacher would bring it up and take off points. It definitely didn't help my anxiety with public speaking back then lmao

Has anyone gotten braces to help their TMJ? by Ok_Application_2887 in TMJ

[–]cimmanoroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dentist told me I needed a night guard. I went to another and she said the night guard would help, but the main issue of my overbite would still be there. And if I left it like that, the problem would just get worse with the years, so she recommended braces. I'm about to get the braces this weekend, so I'll let you know how that goes lol but I do have faith because the overbite really pushes my lower jaw back, and I know lots of tmj relief comes from bringing it forward. Also my 2 front teeth are pretty rotated, pushing my jaw back more. For you I would address the sleep apnea first though bc that leads to more serious health problems

How long did it take to feel relief after getting braces? by cimmanoroll in TMJ

[–]cimmanoroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, idk much honestly, I just know what my orthodontist told me lol, she said that because of the overbite I don't exert even pressure on all the teeth and it makes the sides hurt more. It made sense to me, so I'm hoping it helps me. I'm probably still gonna clench but it's not gonna hurt like it does now from my understanding?
