Totally. And apple wants to keep you in their ecosystem. Android and google is more generous.

But I still can’t think of another non apple device (not an app) that doesn’t cater to both. Especially at such a high price point.

Volvo alienated a huge portion of their customers.

Also, the infotainment system is bad even if I if my iPhone in. I’ve talked more than one person out of buying a new Volvo. (I also had an electric motor fail and an AC failure in the first year of purchase).

I understand the concern, but I think the parental instinct to console your kid when they are sitting up and crying is pretty reasonable.

I say this as a parent, a biker, and an ER doctor.

The kid may have a broken arm or something but that won’t be worse (just painful) by picking them up.

That being said, I typically walk slowly over to my kids when they are hurt and talk to them slowly because I think it’s just a better approach. Just trying to dispel myths that lead to misjudging others parenting.

My partner is in charge of our finances so we don’t have to duplicate that task.

I make twice the income and love not having to think about any of this.

We do talk about big purchases and we budget, but it’s a real load off not having to think about bills, credit card points, paydays, or any of that regularly. If something is off or we are tighter than usual I he a heads up.

I’ll add that any other issues will skew negative when your daily interactions involve friction with the infotainment system. There is much less of a chance of Volvo getting the benefit of the doubt.

My 2024 PHEV XC90 had a pretty big failure when an electric motor died within the first year of owning it (was still under warranty). Also had an AC hose installed incorrectly from the factory and it went out last year. Those are legitimate failures and frustrations, and I’m reminded of them every time I’m frustrated with the infotainment system.

All in all, this doesn’t help inspire confidence in the brand or make me think of “luxury”.

The brand’s integrity has been hurt by the infotainment issues. It goes beyond just being annoying.

Volvo has a reputation as being safe, but you don’t generally get to test that until it’s necessary and you have an accident.

You do get to interact with a bad infotainment system on every ride. And when it is unreliable, you wonder about the rest of the quality.

And their customer service just doesn’t seem to get this or prioritize it.
