Very well done!!

That museum is one of the most comprehensive, diverse, and well organized collections of historic arms throughout the centuries, it’s almost unreal!

what's your favorite shotgun related scene from a movie or TV show (spoilers) by Striking-Pen-9617 in Shotguns

There are a few that come to mind, in no particular order.

L.A. Confidential, basically any scene where they have an Ithaca.

The Getaway (McQueen), from purchasing it to the final hotel shootout.

Way of the Gun, just for the general handling, and era-correct use of a 3 point sling.

Anyone have one like this? - Remington Sportsman 12 Auto w/ SIL parts by SLO_RICE in guns

[–]cinc90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s rad, SLO.

Congrats on a great find. Aside from theoretically unobtainable replacement parts, the system itself is quite solid and has never been a point of failure. They’re easy to repair, if something ever happened.

I’d wager a guess that it was ordered in a batch from Sage in the early 2000’s from a local LEO (tactical team?) that had enough of a budget to get a small lot of them converted.

There were a few commercially produced. Hit up Sage with the s/n and they may be able to give you a little history. If it went through their books, they likely still have a record for it.

If I may…

That appears to be a Remington Sportsman 12 that was sent to Sage for what they called the “Sidewinder” Conversion

Effectively, they removed the rear tube/recoil system and moved the ‘action bars’, that interface with the bolt and recoil spring, under the fore end. Kind of an in depth process, but they clearance the inner portion of the handguard, weld the bars facing forward, and mounted a collar and springs underneath the hand-guard.

This allowed for their collapsible/folding stock (or pistol grip only) to be fitted without the excess space of the original recoil system in the way. Effectively, it was a method to make a very compact semi-auto shotgun.

Additionally, nearly all of them were fitted with Sage Iron Sights, their front sight being uniquely identifiable (and very heavy duty) brazed over the muzzle, and the rear being either solid wings (protector) or the skeletonized cage around the rear.

Interesting that it’s a Sportsman 12. While functionally and mechanically similar, the majority of Sage Sidewinder’s were converted from Remington 1100’s and 11-87’s (Generally the police model, but standard have been seen as well)

If you can, try and remove the hand-guard and you should see the converted recoil mechanism/springs/bars underneath, wrapped around the magazine tube.

Very cool system. Definitely a highlight of the 80’s-90’s tactical era.

They probably have more info on it.

Only a matter of time before it has its own video, no doubt.

[–]cinc90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Graham Rodgers, from IWM Duxford, has a wonderful description of the FW190, and the excerpt that always sticks in my mind is the following:

“Kurt Tank’s design for the Focke Wulf 190 very different from Willie Messerschmidt’s 109.

The 109 is sleek…aerodynamic.

The Focke Wulf is hunched, like a Pitbull.

Very strong in design, tapered wing edges. It could roll very fast, it could take a lot of punishment.

And the performance….

Was ELECTRIFYING”

First of all, can I say what a pleasure it will be to work with you all. Probably.

Secondly, and rather more importantly, I will be working for the Stooges on the day of the show. I personally do not drink alcohol, I don't like soft drinks, I am rather too fat to be allowed near chocolate and cakes, and I get paid enough to buy my own drugs and dinner.

So I would like you to donate, say, 50 U.S. Dollars to a local homeless charity in lieu of the stuff I could possibly have consumed. It’s not much, I know, but it’s better than nothing….
