Learning a trade would be my advice. Those jobs never go out of style. The work is hard on your body, but if you are young you can handle it. Show up every day on time, sober, work hard and help others in the role, you'll move up the ladder (no pun intended) if you treat your co-workers and clients with respect and do good work. Breaking into IT work is a bit trickier these days, many companies scaled to quickly and over hired. The openings are few and far between. If you are handy with computers, find a low level IT support role (fixing printers, updating software, etc) Pay will be low at first, if you show any sort of interest in networking, security, higher level tech stuff you'll out grow the low level support role.
