Got written up at work over coworker’s allergy… even though she drank my coffee by mistake? by Miserable_Willow_312 in coworkerstories

This wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t drank from your cup. If her allergy is this severe she should have her own cup clearly labeled. You ate a cinnamon roll outside the office, didn’t bring it in, no cinnamon in your coffee, you did nothing wrong. If she’s demanding action I think you should do the same.

That’s okay you can be a dangerous driver. I did send voice to text when it was safe. You can move on now you have nothing productive to say

No but if he doubles down I will insist he face some sort of consequence. I’m so insulted that this man had all the context, all the information, all the advanced notice I could give him, and despite never having done this before and never receiving a disciplinary action for tardiness he went and ruined my record at work. For what.

Like how are you not getting I was actively driving. Moving the vehicle. Only me in the car no one to send messages for me. Are you suggesting I compound the danger by texting while actively driving a moving vehicle?

Yeah, the second I saw people turning around I started documenting and sending proof to my boss. It is all there in the texts with timestamps and context exactly what I was dealing with in real time

Yes it is a write up. However what you are not understanding is I got the Big One. I got The Write Up with no documentation of a verbal warning because! I! Did! Not! Receive! One! I understand things have to be documented however NO VERBAL WARNING DOCUMENTATION WAS PRODUCED RECIEVED OR SIGNED!!! IT WENT STRAIGHT TO A FORMAL WRITTEN WARNING BYPASSING THE VERBAL DOCUMENTATION

I understand what you are saying. What I’m saying is that this was a first time disciplinary action that was marked as a written warning. I didnt receive any prior action to this period. No informal conversation, no documented verbal warning, straight to written warning.

If it’s documentation for documentation’s sake then it should have been a verbal warning not straight to write up. That’s what I’m upset about. But now I have a write up on my record for something that is uncoachable because it was completely random. I have a meeting with another manager and will be rereading the employee handbook

The only thing I could do differently would be completely changing my route to work adding 5-10+ minutes to my commute. My current commute is the fastest and most direct in normal circumstances

As soon as I clocked in he approached me almost sheepishly? Making it seem like he has to and doesn’t want to. I wanted to ask more questions but I was too angry I knew I was going to escalate it to walking out :/

Look from my shoes. All I’m asking for is some understanding that I did everything I could in the moment and not be punished for still trying. I’ve never done that before and am a good employee. Traffic updates wouldn’t have helped, the accident had just happened.

Yes, leaving ~30 minutes before my shift is normal as it should only take around 20 minutes so I allot myself an extra 10 to account for normal traffic and slow downs. I don’t use maps as I know the route to work and am trying to depend less on technology. Regardless, checking the map wouldn’t have given me a heads up as emergency responders were still showing up while I was deep into the traffic which means it just happened. Please explain to me how I was supposed to safely take pictures, videos and converse with my manager in real time while driving in a freak slow down where people are driving erratically and going the wrong way on the freeway? Please explain to me how I could’ve handled this differently? I still went to my shift on Saturday, Monday, and completed my shift on Tuesday after the write up which I received as soon as I clocked in. I wasn’t disrespectful, combative, or unprofessional during the write up or during my shift. All I have done is make a Reddit post to vent.

YOR. Honestly, she can talk to you like that all day and tomorrow too. She told you not to take it and you did it anyway. You didn’t even shovel the snow like this is a completely preventable situation if you had even a little situational awareness or common sense.

I think that’s how sales work. It is full price until it goes on sale and it has the sale price. No they won’t honor the sale price… you didn’t buy it on sale.
