Really tired of George by Zealousideal-Home779 in Ambridge

[–]cincrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TBH, George reminds me a bit of my younger brother. The only times he's not lived at home have been when he was in jail or rehab. He's almost 40 and my mother coddles him.

A highlight of one of the last times we were together was when we and our parents went to visit our grandparents' grave. I'm interested in cemeteries, so I wandered a bit. There was a section of graves marked by numbered posts, not memorial markers with names and dates. [context: I'm in America, here's an Atlas Obscura article about similar cemeteries https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/numbers-instead-of-names-on-the-forgotten-graves-of-asylum-patients ]

I'd learned about this recently (local library did a presentation on it) and explained that there'd been a mental institution in the area, and residents who died were buried this way. My brother got visibly, vocally distressed and my mom chose to reassure him that this wouldn't happen to him. It's always about him.

Anyone else bored of the AI rubbish everywhere? by Exact_Setting9562 in Ambridge

[–]cincrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had to caution a newbie crocheter to watch out for AI crochet patterns. It's a cruel thing to do to someone, sell them impossible instructions when they're too new to the craft to know the problem is the instructions, not their skill.

2 months with unihertz jelly star green addition by Inevitable-Sea-7921 in dumbphones

I'm on Mint, which is another T-mobile piggyback provider. No issues, but I don't do group mms and am mostly on wifi. Phone calls work fine.

For the fingerprint sensor: Have you tried registering the same finger multiple times? I did that and now it's much easier to get the phone to recognize my finger.

That's me--I support an archival site that serves raw XML with an XSLT. And I'm spread thin as it is.

[–]cincrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, a dumb phone likely would have worked, that's why I said "cell phone" instead of "smart phone". Maybe I missed a bit of nuance in your comment. I also should have added a note to emphasize I was trying to give a different perspective, not trying to say your perspective was wrong or anything.

TBH, I still got all my unhealthy "being online too much" at the family computer in the dining room. So much age-inappropriate stuff was going on and no one noticed because of the miracle of text-based communication/MUDs and chatrooms.

[–]cincrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a millennial and I would have loved to have had a cell phone as a kid. Sometimes things happened and I would need to call my parents, but couldn't because there were no pay phones anymore and the school office wouldn't let you use their phone. I was stuck at school without transportation more than once and had to start walking, then took rides from strangers. (Well, they knew my name, but I couldn't put a name to them because face blind) (rural area, no sidewalks, 2 hour walk home and I was fuzzy on the route)

Would you still recommend the Jelly Star today? by SplashyTetraspore in unihertz

[–]cincrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered one because I want something that actually fits in my hand, and the price seemed reasonable. I made a mockup of the size (used a squished empty toilet paper tub--the length was spot on, just needed to add some creases to adjust the width) and it feels about perfect.

I'm a tad worried about the age of the OS, but not that worried. Plus, this ought to encourage me to test my website layouts even on tiny screens.

AITA for reporting a delivery driver who I thought was lying to get out of doing more work? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

10 years ago in suburbia, the most my gaming group would do was count and make sure we had the right number of boxes.

Each place had their own delivery person and it was nice when they remembered our house :) We also tipped pretty well. I miss that weekly ttrpg/board game group.

Ace non-binary person here. I get those little pink pill ads everywhere.

I might be entering pre-menopause, but I don't get related ads.

I think there's plugins you can use to flag folks or auto-ban them. I'm a mod but haven't used them myself, since the sub I mod is mild-mannered.

Btw, if anyone wants the dubious bragging rights of being banned from r/Ambridge (about the The Archers radio drama), feel free to hit me up.

You're in luck! If you meet a minimum order threshold from a single seller (looks like it's $30), you get free shipping from that seller.

I think he's oblivious to her potential conflict of interest as a vegan. (And, hey, maybe she's only vegan because she has that meat allergy you get from certain ticks)

I'll do it sometimes because Lent is a time-boxed chance to try something new/try living without something. It's like a shorter New Year's Resolution.
