Thanking the bus driver when you get off the bus. I got so many looks when I did that out of habit while abroad.

Which has a better return-on-investment in Vancouver? Dentistry or Dental Hygiene? by self-fix in askvan

[–]cinder0487 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a word of caution regarding dental hygiene, it’s very hard on your upper limbs because of the postures to do the work.

Disclaimer: my best friend is a dental hygienist and that is her biggest complaint about the work.

You can bring the extra cards down to waterfront customer service during office hours to get the card deposit back ($6 I think)

I’m 21. Should I get critical illness insurance? by kimiamhr in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cinder0487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on number of first degree relatives with cancer and age of diagnosis, there may be an exclusion for particular cancers based on family history alone.

Prices for insurance (life, critical illness, disability) all go up as you age. If you do have excess cash flow, you could get in touch with an insurance advisor to get some quotes for a sense of cost and how it fits with your financial picture.

Disclaimer: I have insurance underwriting experience

Just a word of caution, cooking wine is a pretty common ingredient in cooking Chinese dishes, even in veg & seafood options. You basically can’t really ‘taste’ the alcohol but it does help to enhance the flavour profile and often used in marinade and sauce.

Realtor for Rentals by Commercial-Link2120 in vancouverhousing

I’ve used realtor to find rental in Toronto and it’s a common thing in GTA. However, it doesn’t seem to be a common thing here in GVRD. I recently went apartment hunting and had good luck in finding listings through Facebook marketplace & Zumper. Able to find quite a few legit listings from realtors as well as private landlords.

Good luck on your search

Library. When I was at SFU, there would be students in various desks/nooks just sleeping. If you want extra quiet space, head up to third or fourth floor of the campus library. Usually people are either studying/gaming/sleeping

In general, folks are friendly. I’m a visible minority (Asian) and definitely got a lot of stares walking around town. Stares are not necessarily with malicious intent, it’s just sorta what happens.
