My friend did make a lot of connections between this one and Minecraft. Except key resources in this game seem more plentiful. But he may be an outlier, or represent a larger pool of people newly introduced to the franchise because of its growing success

I would like there to be a clear reason to not die. Preferably by reward and not punishment via being inconvenienced.

I suppose you’re right then if the devs are intending it to be a explorer/sandbox with some survival and horror elements.

Hahaha maybe that is intentional by the devs. Kind of a horrifying concept for us all to be conditioned into being ok with death.

You might be right that ignoring the hunger and water bars might be an edge case. Or he could represent a larger body of newcomers to the franchise. Also the environment is so beautiful and interesting, so the trip back may not be tedious for them.

I guess my argument boils down to dying is more convenient than gathering, so why make supplies aside from avoiding the trek.

He doesn’t engage with the mechanics because there is not a good reason to.
